Default Mcgards Lug Nuts

Just picked up the black Mcgards lug nuts. Is it necessary to use any silicon or anti sieze when installing them (lugs are steel, wheels aluminum). Also anybody know what is the torque spec?

I've used Lubro Moly Anti Seize on all of my vehicles. Corrosion from differing metals can cause problems. And on my new 07', either the corrosion, or the coating that was sprayed on them was causing the lug nuts not to go on as smoothly as expected when it was brand new.

I've seen torque numbers listed for certain applications with anti seize, and without. And, some folks back off a little on the torque setting if they use anti seize. The most important thing is to get all the lugs set to the same torque.

I've used Permatex Anti-Seize #133A on the wheel studs of every vehicle I've owned for the last 20 years. No problems yet. No corrosion and torque remains 100 ft. lbs. as set initially.

I use a VERY SMALL amount the first time I remove/replace the wheels and have never had to re-apply. The tube in my tool box has probably been there for 5 years and is still better than 1/2 full. 1 application seems to last for years regardless of how many times the wheels are removed/replaced.

Quick,easy and cheap preventitive maintenance.

From the Capacities and Specifications page of the owners manual (page 5-101 for 2006):

Wheel Nut Torque 100 lb ft

The tire dealer I use does not torque the lock nuts as they are afraid of stripping the lock key. Have not had any problems.

McGard makes a good product, but IMO locking lug nuts are feel good items that aren't worth a great deal.

Any wheel thief on his second job knows about wheel lock removal sockets that, when paired with a 1/2" breaker bar, will take the locks off.

I've been changing tire's on my cars for over 50 years and never used anything on the threads. I have heard you shouldn't but I don't know why you would use anything.

Last time I looked, the GM Service Manual said to avoid any lube or anti-seize on the lugs.

use criss-cross patern and always torque them 100lbs, The torque procedure is for even clamping force on the wheels and the rotors.
