While driving OR setting with engine off I hear a clicking coming from behind the radio under the dash. It sounds like a vent door trying to cycle. It clicks for 5-8 times and quits for a few minutes and then repeats. Dealer reprogramed air coinditioner program but did not fix, they are now going to go into the dash to find it. Any ideas?
Corvettes make weird sounds (comes with the territory of the good value and buying a Chevy, IMO), that's just the way it is. Taking the dash apart is more likely to create NEW rattles than anything else.
I hear a similar sound in my '07 vert. I think it's coming from the DVD/CD drives - the acuator moving back and forth. When I remove both the sound stops.
Its not a rattle, its a electronic opening or attempt to open type of sound. Some sensor has lost its way. Thought someone might have an idea.
I understand it's not a rattle. My point was (and is) taking the dash apart is likely to create rattles. Corvettes make noises ... I wouldn't worry about it.
There was a post a few months ago about this and the poor guy had a nightmare experience. To replace the HVAC damper they had to pretty much disassemble the whole dash area. The guy had pictures and it looked like a bomb went off.

Stuck air damper. Someone else had the same problem. The problem even manifested itself when the engine was off. If you hear it after the engine is off, then you're probably squicked. It's a 90% dash off fix and it's NOT pretty.
Cycle through all your vent modes at high speed, and see if they are working properly
my chevy truck does the same thing.
I believe its something to do with the air conditioner.. everything works fine on my truck so i'm just gonna leave it alone!
My dealership has removed my dash twice, and I reported about it in C6 Tech back in September. First time, they thought it was the relay for the hazzard flasher. Next, they replaced the receiver, part 15815693. That seemed to help for a few days, then it started up again. I started using my CD player a lot more after getting the MP3 fix on this formum. I really thought that had solved the problem (someone had suggested a faulty CD arm)... that I just wasn't using the CD player enough (XM instead).
Anyway, it has done it once since Sept 6, and that was when I had a lot of boxes behind the seat. I think it may be related to the relay that opens the hatch. My dealer thinks so too. I tried opening and closing the hatch a lot and pressing the hatch release button (which does not work most the time). The clicking went away. Eventually, I'm going to have the hatch relay replaced. Just haven't had much time lately, and the clicking has gone away. I kept thinking it might be fob-related, but when it is clicking, changing fobs doesn't help. It could be weather related... happens more in hot weather, but I'm not sure. It didn't happen at all during my first year of ownership.
Anyone who thinks it is normal, is incorrect. Otherwise it wouldn't go months without clicking. (It does click a couple of time when I start up... that does seem to be normal). It can drive you crazy if you have a passenger and you are trying to have a conversation. When by myself, I just crank the stereo!
Oh yeah, no problems from removing the dash by my dealership. The electronics are complex in this car, and I believe eventually everybody's dash will need to be removed for one reason or another.
One other thing... GM denies knowing anything about this problem. I contacted them, and so did my dealership.
Just thought of something else. When it is clicking like crazy, steping on the brake or using the turn signal helps trigger the clicking. Or, nothing at all... even with the ignition off when you first enter the car. If anyone ever has a definitive answer for this, I will be very happy to learn about it (and so will my dealership). But for at least the past month, there has been no clicking.

Thanks RocknL for the reply but Big_geek has ID'd my problem. I do appreciate your comment on no problems in taking out the dash, that is a big comfort.
The sound is the sensor searching for your fob. It happens when you turn the engine on or off. To locate when turning on and to set the alarm and shut down everything when turning off. Every now and then it will go out of range while driving (I keep my keys on my side hip and it will go out of range while driving and the sensor searches for it. While driving it won't shut off the car or anything but it will search for it.

No, it won't. The car only queries the fob when entry/exit is attempted or when you press the start button. It doesn't query it at any other time unless the fob initiates the exchange by having one of its buttons pressed. No relays are involved in the query process anyway.
