I hope to be installing my new GHL exhaust system this weekend, and I will be doing it at my local military (Air Force Academy) auto craft shop. They have regular commercial-grade car lifts and I don't know if I will need rubber jacking/lifting pads or if I just need to be careful where I put the ends of the lifts on the frame. My owner's manual shows where to put a jack, but I don't know if I will need the additional protection of pads. I have a friend who has pads for his C5, and I am guessing they will probably work. Advice?
You may not need pucks depending on the type of lift. Some lifts I've seen, at tire shops for example, lift the car by the rocker panels, and for those you need pucks. If the lift has adjustable arms and lift points an inch or two higher than the arm, just position the lift points at the car's jacking points and be careful not to touch or put pressure on the painted rocker panels. Any pucks will work if you need them at all, even hockey pucks.
Just went into the dealer for the first time this week for the roof fix recall and rear end noise TSB. Before I knew it car was up on the lift without jack pucks that I had in the car. I was beside myself. Lo and behold, the body flexed. Had a quarter inch gap on the drivers side door and front fender. Discovered this after the car was home.
Lesson learned: If you have jack pucks with you, make sure you tell the Tech or person you have them and use them......
new guy 1st vett. How you do that. Not buy them, put them in?
They snap in.
This is a shot of the side that bears aginst the frame rail. The ears snap into the frame rail shipping slots. The rectangular ones, in addition to being taller, have a perimeter gasket and retaining pin.
(Damn, I resized the pic and it's still huge. Sorry 'bout that.)

thank you very much. Off to the beemer dealer tomorrow. Had one of those once and swore I would never go there again. Oh well, it is for a proper cause. Thanks again for the help. Pic is just fine.

You need to have a serious talk with the Service Manager at your Dealership about this. They know all about puck's going under Vette's before lifting. Any damage to your car is there responsibility.
If you get the jacking pucks from Elite Engineering do not leave them mounted on the frame rails, they can come off unexpectedly. The good news is that you can buy singles for replacements.

You bet I did!!! I had his full attention in his office. To his credit though he was new to Chev dealership. He said he would talk with his Techs and also consider buying a new lift for the service bay. I did feel better venting afterwards. Most important, no damage to the underside and the body flexed back to the original gaps as far as I can determine....
Thanks for all the good answers, guys. I may be off to the Beemer shop myself.
If the Beemer dealer is out of stock don't put off the install, you're gonna love the sound of the GLH system, go to Wallmart and pick up four hockey pucks to use in the interim, just put them between the frame rail and the lift.

Went down to Beemer store, Guy said you SURE you want these for a Corvette? They won't work!
$12.50 each (thick ones) fit like a glove and the retaining pin looks like it should hold them real tight. Nice insurance policy!!!!
Thanks again ProfMoriarty.
