05 with manual transmission. I thought I saw someplace in the forum a GM exec asking if anyone had a problem with the Shift In Reverse not engaging when the car was actually in reverse and shut down. Mine has now done this and will not shut down. Anyone know where that thread was?

I've never had this problem with my '05, but I do make it a habit to slightly engage the clutch after shifting to Reverse to make sure Reverse is truly engaged. Can't help on the prior thread...I presume you've tried the Search feature.

C5-Bruce, a forum member, was the intermediary to GM on this topic. Send him a PM, I'm sure that he can get you the original stuff.
As a result of these dealings, GM has release a new software upgrade to the BCM to hopefully correct the problem. Your dealer should have the upgrade by now:
I had mine done last week, and I can tell you that my car still has the reverse error, especially if I try and park on a steep uphill. Supposedly the new software tells the BCM to somehow ignore the error and shutdown anyway. I'm waiting another month or so and will probably do a forum poll on the new upgrade, and whether it's working. So far things seem favorable...

I'm not telling you to stop doing what works for you.
But GM specifically stated not to do this, as somehow they feel it may encourage DBS. There seems to be a brief interval of vulnerability to DBS right after the car is placed in reverse, and it may be that certain actions taken by the driver during that time frame may bork the shutdown process.
