Default Changing the oil yourself

Hey chevy recommends 5w30 mobil 1, but if you are changing the oil yourself what is the best oil filter to use on an 07. I read somewhere on the forums here that the filter changed for 07'. Just curious the closet store to me is advanced auto or napa. Would they have a filter that will fit the 07 c6 ls2? Thanks guys.

If the regular filter wrench that fits on the end won't turn it (it probably will), try a strap wrench.

With a top quality Snap-On cap and this wrench setup, that filter's off in a few seconds:

My Autozone could not even order an AC/Delco PF48. He knew this instantly because he had to send a customer down to the Chevy dealership to get one.

O'Reilly's didn't have one in stock, but said we can order it. Warehouse in Nashville (Memphis?) has 250 and we can get it in two days.

I ordered 2, they were here in the two days, $6.69 each, keeping the receipt, when I'm ready to change it, I'll drop by WallyWorld and get the Mobil 1 jug. Use it and the quart I've got in the rear cubbyhole and buy a fresh quart for the cubby hole.

Document the date and milage on the receipts, drop these in the folder for the car, and I'm ready if GM wants to see them for future warranty work.

A little opinion here. I don't understand why people are questioning using Mobil 1 and AC/Delco filter. This is what GM recommends, the Mobil 1 is there right at Walmart and the PF48 is now becoming available at parts stores. Why look further. There is no question about 'meeting GM Specification xxxx'. Any failure on the motor is going to come from somewhere else, not Mobil-1 and PF48 usage, if the oil and filter has been changed according to the oil use indicator. With the oil change indicator coming in at 10,000 miles or so, we all know most of us are going to change it much, much sooner that this recommends.

I changed my oil and filter and it cost me about $35.00 and a half hour of my time. I liked doing the job myself knowing that when finished, it was done right and the oil level was exactly where it should be. I wrote about it a little while ago. Check this link and go for it.

Can the oil be changed the same on the C-6 as on the C-5 ? Car has to be level right ? As I understand it the oil drain plug location has changed to the side of the oil pan. Has this necessitated a change in procedure at all ?

The OEM filter is $4.87ea. That's a small price to pay for "slam dunk" warranty protection.

Where can I find the written oil filter specification that insures "slam dunk" warranty protection?
