Default 2006 A6 Transimssion Issue

I may have found out some of the limitations to the A6 transmission. I have the rwhp set at 560 and torq is set at 580. I am now having problems with the car shifting from 2nd to 3rd during heavy acceleration. The transmission seems to slip and the car hits the rev limiter without shifting. I am taking the car to RPM transmissions this week and they will drop the trans and see what is going on in there. This will allow them to see what they can do to upgrade the A6 transmissions going forward. I know there are alot of people with questions on these transmissions from this forum. I will update the forum when we find out what is happening. If anyone out there is having the same issue let me know. Thanks

They will get the car this week to see what is happening in the transmission. They will also be able to see what they can do to beef up the A6 transmission. Mine did that a couple times in bolt on form. But seems to have resolved itself.

Does it do it in paddle mode?? or in Drive. Try that. Maybe it's just hitting the limiter, maybe you can lower it. Might not even be a tranny issue.

Have you gotten a "Check Engine" light? I'm not sure but if the trans is sliping it should set a code and illuminate the MIL. I've read a few posts about people experiencing the same failure on unmodified cars. Hopefully your trans isn't slipping.

You're making a lot of horsepower and the stock transmission isn't bulletproof.

Please let us know what you find. I hope it's just a programming issue.

For general information the car has the APS TT system on it. The boost is set at 9 not 18! I did this post to help others that may be thinking of pushing the drivetrain to see where the limit is. The tuner did not go into the transmission on the tune. So I am not speculating and am waiting to see what the issue is.

I have no where near the power that you have, but I have a FI setup on my A6. I notice the shifting as well. I have given up on trying to paddle shift this thing accurately. You have to push the paddle at like 4500 rpm to get it to shift before it hits the rev limiter. Under "S" mode it seems to hesitate sometimes. My car isn't fully tuned yet so I will let you know if it changes.

Seems to me I remember reading somewhere on the limits of the A6. I don't remember the exact numbers but I think you are about there.
Hopefully it's just a tune issue but man, that is a lot of power!

My car has done it twice at the track also since I put on headers, CAI, and a dyno tune. Mine also seemed to just fix itself.

The car just started to do it in the sport mode the first time. I was able to use the paddles and shift without any issue. It seems to be getting worse instead of better. It still seems to be ok in the drive mode. Now with the paddles it also seems to not shift correctly. It still only happens when you are hard on the gas.

I thought LAPD had those APS twin turbos set to 9 lbs so that the transmissions were not pushed. Now you're noticing that even at 8 lbs the torque is too much.

Hopefully, RPM will come up with an upgrade soon. Thanks for the information.

Some people were saying the A6 should have no problem being dropped into a Z06 so why doesn’t GM offer it. I wonder if that's just wishful thinking. Perhaps GM doesn't want to warranty a ZO6 with the A6 tranny installed. It’s one thing to roll the dice on 1 car with lots of HP and the A6. It’s quite another however to build several thousand of them and have to warranty them

It will be interesting to hear what the problem was…
