Default Service Active Handling

Took my C6 to the golf course today(Mostly to show of my new Corsa Exhaust to my friends). When I started the car to leave I got the "Service Active Handling" message. About 10 minutes, I was home and shut the car down normally. A couple of minutes later I started the car and the message was gone and I haven't seen it since. What's up with that??, tks, eddie

There's been alot about this. Search for threads about it and you'll find plenty. My 05 had this, at first they changed the steering wheel angle sensor. Since then they've learned that it is the connector in the telescopic steering wheel working loose. Easy fix for a competent Chevy shop.

I had it happen a lot. I finally looked it up on these posts and the forum had all the info. It has to do with the telescoping steering wheel. Print out what they say to look at and your dealer can fix it in a few hours without dismantling anything serious!
good Luck!

I had the same problem with my '06 Z51. Would come on, then go off after car had reset. When it become more constant, took it to Chevy dealer - steering position sensor was replaced, and no problems since.

It has something to do with the wiring harness in the steering wheel--take it back to the dealer it's about a 10 min fix. They do have a tech paper out on it.

The connector that needs taped and tie wrapped is easily accessed by removing the panel above the brake pedal. I fixed mine myself in just a few minutes.

My '06 Z51 Vert w/5000 miles just started showing the "Service Active Handling" message when the engine is first started (goes away if I turn off/restart engine) or whenever a rough bump occurs on the highway while driving. So, it's just a matter of removing a panel and doing what exactly?

So does the active handling service need servicing? or not?

Here is a copy of the TSB. I couldn't find the one I had with the illustrations but this should give you an idea of what is needed.

TSB 06.02.35.002

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) C0710 Steering Wheel Position Sensor (SWPS) Signal, Service Stability System Message on Driver Information Center (DIC) (Inspect and Secure Wires in SWPS Connector)

2005-2006 Chevrolet Corvette

with Steering Wheel - Tilt, Telescoping (RPO N37)

Condition
Some customers may comment on a Service Stability Message on the DIC.

Diagnosis with a scan tool may reveal a DTC C0710.

Cause
The most likely cause of a DTC C0710 on a vehicle equipped with telescoping/tilt steering wheel is high resistance in SWPS connector C202. Fretting terminal corrosion maybe present in the SWPS connector due to the telescoping motion of the steering column. When the steering column is telescoped in and out, the female terminals within the SWPS connector may move on the male terminals of the SWPS. This movement between the terminals may cause a high resistance condition in the SWPS connector.

Correction
Remove the driver's side close out panel.

Notice:

• Failure to properly tape the wires in the connector may result in additional concerns.

• Failure to use a small plastic strap 2.5-3.5 mm (0.10-0.14 in) in width may prevent the SWPS connector from properly seating, resulting in additional SWPS DTCs.

Using electrical tape (1), tape from the plastic strap up the wires a minimum of 2.5 cm (1 in).
Install a small plastic strap (2) 2.5-3.5 mm (0.10-0.14 in) wide around the SWPS sensor connector so that it retains the wires to the connector as shown.

Important: Install and remove the SWPS connector a minimum of three times to remove any possible terminal corrosion.

Reinstall the SWPS connector.
Reinstall the close out panel.

Thanks for the reply. I will be driving by the dealership tomorrow anyway so I will have them check the problem.

Hit control F, and type C0710, or scroll down to Oct 3, and look for TSB 06-02-35-002A. I fixed mine in less than 15 min. Must remove knee bolster to access connector.

I brought mine in , also without the telescopung option, and the dealer said it was due to an upgraded download. Have them check it out because mine locked up on me a couple of times. I felt this to be pretty dangerous and asked why wasn't I notified and the response was "Well it isn't a recall" I was lucky I never had anyone behind me when my car started skidding because of this . Just my $.02

I never got any signal on mine that it said "Service Active Handling" I did get some ice warning but I can't remember word for word what it said about that as it usually gives this warning at 35 degrees.

I printed this inforrmation and took it into the dealer along with my complaint of the SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING message. The issue title doesn't state ACTIVE HANDLING but the person working on my car applied the fix and it solved my problem. Thanks for the link!

Default Active Handling and Traction Control

Quick questions:

1. I've got an 07 Z06.....Can we systemically disable the active handeling and traction control so that the car defaults to Comp Mode at start up? I'm getting annoyed with pressing the buttons to activate and remove the signal from the display every start up.

2. Can we remove the shift indicator too?

3. Does the Cold Ram Air or the Corsa Exhaust help out? I installed the Diablo Sport Program....i'm sure i've got some pick up but NOTHING worth talking about.

I had this happen several times as well. After the 2nd complaint to the dealer about the problem, they seemed to have resolved it by upgraidng the software/firmware... not sure which, but the problem has not come back.

Does anyone have a pic of what needs to be done?
Are they saying to tie wrap the connector so it cant come apart?
I would love to see a pic of before and after just for curiosities sake.
