I have never had anyone talk smack to me when driving my Vette. Maybe because I give them the Clint Eastwood scowl when someone starts up with me.
I did get into a kind of road rage situation just today when a lady in a big new Mercedes wanted to change lanes in front of me. She didn't have room because she was even with the front half of my car, but cut into my lane anyway, intentionally cutting me off & forcing me to slam on my brakes to avoid being hit by her gigantic car.
I kind of lost it, and went screaming around her, and put on the brakes forcing her to stop behind me. I thought about getting out my car & having words with her right in the middle of the road, but decided to move on. She understood loud & clear the angry words coming out of my mouth to her when I was making eye contact with her looking in my rear view mirror.
I hate to flip out, but I have a short fuse when someone intentionally aims their car at mine as a weapon. Man or woman, I am going to go f*cking off on someone that does that. My Italian temper goes from 0-60 on the rage scale faster than my car does in mph when someone starts that kind of **** with me.
People do dumb **** when they see corvettes. I could tell you many stories of idiots doing dumb **** when confronted with a corvette in their attention bubble.
You have to remember, an idiot in general will do something stupid. Your corvette confuses the said idiot in a way someone with a brain can not understand. So really it is your fault for driving a corvette in the first place.
Ok, I'm sitting at a traffic light the other day heading to go out on a date and an old beat up car packed full of teenagers pulls up next to me about one car length ahead and they all start flicking me off out the window and yelling something. I couldn't hear what they were saying because I had my radio up loud blasting a cd I just made, but I'm sure it wasn't "hey nice car".
Needless to say I was a little pissed like wtf..I'm minding my own business..not showing off or anything and I get this.
Anyone else get this sort of negative attention? Stories please.
Noyhing but thumbs up from 99% in Paulding county, except young ricers.
well driving a corvette where I live seems to be a mixed bag of nuts..I see a lot of thumbs up and I see mean jealous looks and tailgating
Over the weekend I had a 2000ish model mustang GT with aftermarket mods(you could tell it had a supercharger in it when it took off..had a whistle to it) pull up along side me and want me to race him...it was wide open road up ahead so I did...I smoked him easily after the first 3 seconds. I stopped at the redlight ahead and he stopped next to me and wanted me to roll down my window..he said: "man i didn't even have a chance"..."thats a nice car man"..."my brother's girlfriend is getting one"..."that car is going to be too much power for her....heck mine is too much for her" I complimented him on his mustang and when the light turned I let him go ahead of me and we followed each other until we got into town and split ways with friendly waves...really cool guy for someone on the "opposing team" so to speak and got beat.
p.s. I know street racing is illegal and not condoned here..but somewhere along the line most all of us have done it once.
I've never had anyone yell any negative comments, sometimes people will blatantly try not to let you pass so that they can make you drive slower than you would like in your fast car, but that's about it.
One time I had a guy in an Explorer do that, I eventually had enough room to go around him safely, but fast and loud, he started mouthing off at the next light.
As long as he didn't get out of the car I had no problem with it.
There are a lot of morons and jealous people out there, but you are best to ignore them. Having said that, You can also have some fun with them. Most of you will not be old enough to remember this, but my father and mother drove a gasoline tanker in the 30's. They didn't have any voice communications so they had paddles made up ( they look like a hand held fan on a stick) and each one had a short message like maybe Hello or a warning like COP. So, being the sometimes honery person that I am I made up some paddles for myself. I have paddles that say: 07, Made in USA, You Too, Faster N' YOU, Bye Bye and so forth. I add and subtract as the mood hits me and they are all on coalfire colored cardboard which makes them easy to see and read Life is too short to take these yokels serioursly so I play with their minds.
98% positive comments for me. A few weeks ago the other 2% surfaced. I was sitting at an intersection waiting on the light to turn green and a car crossed left to right in front of me. It was some mid-80's GM 4 door sedan and full of rednecks. The one in the front passenger seat rolled down his window and leaned the upper half of his body out of the window, at me, at raised both arms with dual birdie's flying. It was so bizarre that I laughed out loud. He was shouting obscenities and looked enraged. I have no idea what his problem was. One thing for sure, people react to both extremes with our cars, don't they!

Yes, I used to, but my Desert Eagle seems to keep that from happening now.
I AM kidding. Seriously, get used to it, especially if you are under 40. People resent things they can't have. My friend used to have a Lambo Gallardo, but people were so nasty to him when he drove it that his wife refused to ride in it anymore. It was sold in a few months. He also lost a sizeable sale because someone said "he has a Lamborghini, he doesn't need my money" then went and paid MORE for the same items somewhere else. People are A-holes. This guy is a straight shooter and a great businessman, too; he deserves an Enzo if he wants one. People don't care, they just think you think you're hot s%$t because you have a nice car.
Well, I have news for them. I'd think I was hot s%$t if I drove a rusted out, Bondo-ed Pinto, so they might as well knock it off!
One of the main reasons I'm going back to a Camaro when they come out. More of a blue collar car. Heck, I'm near the motor city and I can't tell you how many snide comments I've heard driving vettes. Rich F'er, Must be nice, Daddy's money ...
It's a shame people have to get ugly when they see a nice car, but it happens. I have a friend with a Porsche, he said after a while he just started leaving the windows up. I couldn't imagine owning a Lambo, you certainly couldn't leave it parked anywhere.
And the tailgating is maddening. In a C5Z with the back window right by the back of your head and a short decklid, when some bonehead in an SUV gets behind you, you swear they are inches from your head looking in the rear view.
If anybody is ever giving you the obnoxious tailgating treatment, sweet revenge can be had at the next sharp corner. If someone is riding your *** on the highway as your taking a sharp off ramp. Let them stay right on your ***, don't touch your brake lights. At the last second deep into the corner, crank it hard, the vette will take the corner like it's on rails. Mr. SUV will be crapping his pants trying to make the curve.

Funny to see this happen to other people as well...3 times this past Summer I had situations similar to this where I was driving with the top down and a girl in my car. 1 time it was some drunk group of idiots crammed in a little *** car and 2 times it was a couple drunk idiots in a pick up truck that made rude comments. All 3 times it was after leaving a bar or club so I guess these people were always drunk.
It was always like "look at this guy, who does he think he is!?" or something like that.
The last time I made sure to remind them that my car is worth more than their house.

You live in Cali, right? You need a chill pill as this sort of thing will happen innumerable times in your lifetime. It's a lot easier to back off and let the jerks go than to have a fist fight after an accident. A sobering thought is dealing with police, lawyers, wasted money/time, stress, etc. It's not easy but, you have to learn to turn the other cheek. The alternative is not worth it.
thanks for the comments guys..guess we are all bound to attract all kinds of attention in these cars.I'm just not used to this much attention I guess...but hey..if anyone has any stories they'd like to share go right ahead
Try to get used to it along with people walking up to you in gas stations or stopping their cars wherever you maybe. I drove a Cadillac didn't even get a second look blend right in there undercover..
