The C6 is my first vette. Therefore, I have little vette history.
Is it correct that - "typically" - the new models come out at the end of
July? (Except that the 05 C6 model year was extended for some reason,
I think.)
I think that's when the first copies start to show up at dealers.
I am anticipating that in a couple of months we may learn some concrete facts about key rumors regarding the '08s like new engine with more hp and much better manual transmission.
"Typically" it's the last week of June for the first build of new models for customers. Some of the build goes to what is known as the Captured Test Fleet. These cars are driven by Corvette engineers during the plant shut-down for vacation, usually the first two weeks of July. The plant was only closed one week for the 2007 build.
When the plant reopens, the build is validated and cars will start to ship to dealers that Tuesday or Wednesday. Some of the Captured Test Fleet cars are eventually allocated to dealers for sale to the public.
For model year 2005, the build started on time but the cars were held until the middle of August. 2005 coupes and convertibles were built until the first week of September to enable customers to purchase a 2005 according to GM. The truth was that the new A6 transmission was not ready on time. While the 2005 production run continued, the 2006 Z06 was built along with the 2005's.
