Check engine light?
'06 M6 Z51, Melrose headers, GM Racing Exhaust, 1700 miles...check engine light comes on very randomly, and has been doing this before and after header and exhaust install.... Took it to dealer first time, and they replaced gas cap, said defective. Took back to dealer second time, they said no exhaust leaks anywhere, kept car all day ran several tests and finally came up with I must have used 87 octane gas..NOT...each time after dealer reset the code, the light would eventually come back on and then go off after several start/stop sequences. I use 93 octane religiously, and always double check that the gas cap is screwed on correctly (click, click, click) Also, the light will come on and go off multiple times on the same tank of gas...really puzzling.
I bought the http://www.diydiagnostics.com/ just to avoid making trips to the dealer if/when my C6 starts throwing codes, especially if they are self-induced like installing mods.
My recommendation for any modded C6 is to spend $70 and buy an DIY error code reader.
Good luck
Tom

Why would the dealer suggest that you were getting the "Check engine" light because you may have used 87 Octane gas? The car is supposed to be made to run on 87 Octane gas (with reduced performance). Besides, if you went totally
and did use it, there would still be some 93 in the tank and the resultant mix would be above 87 Octane. Sounds like the dealer was trying to pull excuses of of their azz.
