Anyone had experience with adding wheels to the front skid plates? Do they work?

The "skid plates" are tubular aluminum radiator supports.

Not the type of structure I'd want to stress.

Hundreds of people have added them to their C5's with great success. As ProfMoriarty points out these are your radiator supports so I wouldn't make a habit out of driving on your new wheels up there.

The C6 skid bars are aluminum instead of steel like on the C5. Trying to mount wheels on them is probably a bad idea, just be careful not to hit them on curbs or bumps.

If you hit, skid wheels or no skid wheels, you're going to damage something. Just make sure you don't hit. This means paying attention to where you drive the car and what you drive over, etc. If you are often faced with situations that make you nervous, you may want to consider raising your ride height via the trim height adjusters located behind each wheel... easy enough to do. You can raise the car a good half-inch without making it look goofy, and a half inch can mean the difference between breaking something and not breaking anything. I raised mine.

I'm glad this came up again. I have a set I was going to put on my C5 but I sold it before I got a chance to install them so I figured I'd install on C6 as company said same set will work for C6. After reading above I think I'll just sell them on C5 forum. C6 doesn't hit where C5 used to scrape.

I just bought a C6. I had the skid plate protectors on my C5 (non-wheel version). Can't find a similar product listed for C6. Will the C5 version fit the C6?

I put a C5 set of the non-wheel type on my C6 and they have worked great!

No! Had them on and the first good bump I hit (doing 5 MPH) the right wheel tore off and took a good chunk of the chin spoiler with it. Went home took the other one off and threw it in the trash.

The problem with the rollers is that they actually reduce the clearance that the front radiator supports have with the ground making the car more susceptable to bottoming out and breaking those supports. Bad idea!
