I think it sounds kind of flat. I was considering a Bose surround sound for the home but have since changed my mind because of the poor quality in my car.
I must be the luckiest SOB on the forum then. My system sounds GREAT and it's the base system. Autovolume control will run you out of the car if you set it too high to begin with. It's crisp, clean, good sound - and I'm VERY demanding. I wonder if it's the difference in the kinds of music we listen to?
.
In my stock system 007 coupe I listen to everyhting from Green Day to Gregorian chant music, crank it all up at times; myself and a dozen friends who've heard it (19 - 57 year olds) are IMPRESSED!
If you guys are interested in hearing bar-none the best OEM audio system on the market you should go to your lexus dealership and ask to demo the 19-speaker Mark Levinson system in the LS460... ask specifically to use a DVD-A demo disc. If you aren't blown away by what you hear... have your ears checked.
I wish they made systems that nice in cars that were more exciting to drive.
Now that I swapped the door and center 3.5's and added a sub it is acceptable for me and cost right at $1000 for the upgrade and the bass will blow most that dont care for it away anyway.

I wouldn't throw Bose out the door just yet. There are different levels of Bose systems sold to auto manufacturers and the like. It all depends on how much GM wants to spend on Bose as to what quality level of system we can get in our cars from the factory. I've herd very nice bose systems.
The golden rule of audio is that if it sounds good to you, then it is good for you, no matter what others say or think.
However, with that said, the number of people who buy in to Bose's marketing hype is astounding to me. Bose is excellent at marketing, for sure, and that's why you see so many "Bose" systems in cars these days - GM knows if a salesman says "is has a BOSE STEREO!" people will be impressed. This is despite the fact that GM could probably reproduce or exceed the sound quality of the Bose stereo design for LESS money on their own, but without that highly marketed name attached to it.
Go onto a home theater or audiophile type of forum and ask for opinions on Bose... 99% of your replies will range from downright belittlement to "well if it sounds good to you, but... please at least check out some other offerings in that price range".

I thought it sounded fine at first, but then I bought a 06 titan with the rockford fosgate system. The RF sounded 10 times better than the bose. The 05 bose sounds better than the bose in my 89 vette though.
Test drove the 07 G35 last week that had a bose and it sounded pretty good. The car salesman was trying to brag about the system and I said don't waste your breath, I'm not impressed with bose. It is not a selling point to me to say that a car has a bose.
When I traded my 02 C5 for an 07 C6 /2 lt I got a great car but a lousy radio.
the reception sucks , stations drift the speakers ,cant handle any serious volume the bass is awful the 02 radio was far superior it will be coming out in the spring probably for a pioneer with nav .
It's Bose, it blows. Its stereo soundstage is totally corrupted by having 3 of the speakers fed mixed mono. No tweeters. Quirky midrange with very uneven frequency response. The upper bass register has no punch. All you have is the thumper 10s that have no musicality at all. It's Bose, it blows.
I very rarely listen to my 3LT Bose stereo because of sound quality. I cannot comprehend how Chevy can install their so called high-end system in a Corvette and not have it sound as good as the radio in my 1994 Jeep. However, Bose does make some good sounding auto systems. My wife has one in her Infinity J30 and a friend had an excellent Bose system in his Mercedes. Bose has a good sound for people who are not audiophiles, but if you compare it to good quality systems by other manufacturers they don't stand up. In 1988 I was looking for a good pair of speakers for my rec-room. The first I looked at was the Bose 901 system. At that time the 901's were being pushed as the latest and best in somewhat reasonable cost speakers. The store had a pair of JBL L100t speakers next to the Bose. After playing both I bought the JBL's. Bose couldn't compare.
I don't plan on upgrading to a better system for my Corvette because I probably wouldn't listen all that much anyway. With a manual shift, my concentration is always on the sound of the car, not listening to music. There are times I do listen but end up turning the radio off because I find the sound objectionable, even on talk radio.

Yeah, I think they forgot to put that "premium" sound system in the 3LT option. It was described as such, but I only hear washed out mush.
I made a point not to get the 3LT pkg in part because I did not want the Bose. If it had been a Mark Levinson as in Lexus or Harmon Kardon as in BMW, I would've sprung for it. I figured I'd buy the 2LT and just replace it with aftermarket as I have done in other cars. However, after a couple of months with the base system, I'm actually pretty happy and pleasantly surprised with it. I'm sure most on this forum aren't into hip hop music, but it actually handles those demanding bass lines (808's and sub 100hz) pretty well. I'll stick with it.....for now.
now use the factory head unit with NAV, Focal separates up front, JL Stealthbox and 2 ARC Audio Amps (the old good ones )
much better now
Agree. Bose blows. I did nearly the same thing as you. Factory head w/ Nav, Dynaudio components up front, JL Stealthbox, 2 JL Amps 300.2 and 250.1, Ipod aux input. It kicks it now. Should have come this way from the factory.
3LT Bose system in my 07 suits me fine. CD's are definately better than XM or FM. However, since most folks here disagree and seem to be disappointed, I think GM should offer an optional high end system for those that want it. But, I would not want them to divert build dollars away from any other feature on the car to improve the audio system.
