On the GM site I saw a factory cd changer and it says it can be used with cars with the navigaion system. When we got the car this December the dealer said you can't get both a changer and navigation.
If I order this how is it installed? I looked in the compartments in the rear and there are no electrical connections. So how is this installed and any electronic problems? Ths
You can buy it at the dealer's parts department and it goes in the left compartment in the hatch area. There is a plug under the carpet above the left tire area. It cost around $500. It works with the NAV and is 6 disc.
Vet4less, I looked in both compartments and can't see it. It looks like you can't remove the rug liner without doing damage. I can't feel anything under the rug. How do I get to it?
Doesn't seem to be on the right side either. Thanks
does that changer work with mp3 cds, by any chance?
There is a note on the GM Parts House.com web syte that states: If you have an available Navigation System and still desire a CD changer, this rear-mounted unit gives you the best of both worlds. It handles six discs for hours of listening entertainment.
*Note GM Assistance states this does play MP3's. Currently they also state in fits 2005 models with VIN# breaking point 115217 and up and all 2006 models.

Does anyone have this changer and can verify the note?
I do not know the answer, but I remember that when it came out it was stated that it would NOT play MP3's, so I would want to be sure of that before buying one.

Vet4less, do you have any idea why you can't order the car from the factory with the CD changer?
No idea but it is available at your dealer. I think Fitcher, a forum dealer has the best price.
You need to remove the carpet to get to the plug. It's there, just takes a little work. The plastic bezels around the top hold down must be removed and then the carpet should come out.
I had one installed on my 05 coupe. It goes into the cubby hole on the back left. It plugs into the xm box right above the left rear wheel. It works great. It plays 6 disc's and is displayed on the nav screen as CD/CDX. It shows all 6 disc's and you simply touch the one you want to listen to. IT DOES NOT PLAY MP3's!!! Is it worth $500? NO but I ordered it just before the Nav/MP3 fix that came out a few years ago. I'm glad I have it now. It gives me that much more to listen to.

Probably a dumb question, but with this unit do you also still have the ability to use the single CD in the dash - making 7 CD's total? Also, did you get the Nav/MP3 fix for your car?
I have an 06 vert with NAV and I also had the dealer install the 6 CD changer. It goes in the left cubby in the hatch/trunk area. It plugs into the XM Radio harness. It does NOT play MP3's. The front single changer in the NAV unit WILL play MP3's. However, the rear changer works great. It should cost around $450 for the part and about 1.5-2 hours dealer install time. Keep in mind that there are different part numbers for the coupe and vert

It comes with a wire harness. It connects to the XM module connector which is located above the left rear speaker in a coupe, or under the waterfall in a vert. The changer kit has two different part numbers because coupes and verts need different length harnesses to reach the XM module connector.
To mount the changer in a coupe, you have to pull out the carpet, drill mounting holes, open up the side trim panel and run the harness to the XM connector. It's really pretty simple, if you know how the car comes apart.
Note that the changer will NOT play MP3s. There is some misinformation circulating around saying it will, but that information is incorrect. Standard audio CDs only.

Yes, you still have the ability to use the in dash cd player. I did get the software upgrade that turned my Nav/CD player into a MP3 player. I can drive coast to coast and never hear the same song twice!
