im getting my windows tinted within the next two weeks and i need some help pics are always welcome here are my questions (not worried about legal % but im in NC for those who are curious)
1. how is visiablity at night (what % do you have)
2. anything i can tell the guy b4 he starts to solve the dot matrix problem?
3. i read once someone expirencing problems with nav and windown tints any comments?
4 anything else i need to know im going for the darkest tint i can without losing tons of visability at night
1. I have the TX legal limit, 35%, all around, see sig pic below. I like it but it's pretty light and next time I'll get 30% like I had on my C5. I tried 20% on the rear window of my C5 and it was too dark for me to see through at night, so I wouldn't go any darker than 25% if it were me.
2. My dots held the tint off about halfway down the dots at first. Per my installer, I let it warm in the sun and then pushed it down with a clean microfiber towel every chance I got for the first month or so and now the tint sticks all the way.
3. Tint reportedly won't affect the nav reception at all so long as you don't get a metallic tint film.
1. I have 20% rear, 50% sides. I've had all types of combinations, from 5% all around to 50% all around on various vehicles, and find the 50/20 combo best for me. Anything darker on the sides will make your nightime visibility a bit more difficult. As far as the rear goes, look for headlights, thats pretty much all you have to worry about. Anything in the back will make it hard to see due to the cavern it creates.
2. I had 35% on my back window, and the dot matrix showed up to much, switched to 20% and am very happy. Requires a lot of time and patience to get all the air out and seeded correctly, but the darker tint naturally helps.
3. no problems with nav, its in the front window
4. your sides will affect your feeling about night driving more than the rear. remember, you can always change it if you dont like it, I did.

thanks for all pics comments and help
I am also in NC. Visability at night is decent. Obviously it's harder to see objects without lights, but hopefully anything coming near you on the road has their lights on. However, it could be harder to see pedestrians or whatnot, but it's not that hard considering you'll have your headlights on. I don't have NAV so I can't help there. As far as the dot matrix thing, they just did a good job getting it as good as they could and if you get up close, towards the top part, you can see some spots, but overall it's very good. Just depends on how good the shop is that does it.
This was back last year when I tinted it...
Got it done at a place in Cary, NC called Formula One.
I got 20% all around. The first night, I felt like driving blind, second night was a tad better, and so on and so on. Now I gues I just got used to it, and don't have a problem driving at night as long as I know where the corners are. It is still hard to see the where the curbs are when making wide left-hand turns, but I found myself driving differently, read: pinpointing the curb from the front windshield, and you then can see the curb through the tint as you somewhat "feel" it. It really is not as bad as it sounds, and is getting better everyday.
I had 20% in back and 35% on sides in my previous car, and found the sides to be too light.
Legal limit in NC is 35% on sides and rear window. I have 35% sides and 20% rear (all legal in TX).
I have no problems with the 35%, but backing up at night with the 20% is a problem.
got mine tinted but the back glass is not sticking to well any suggestions i only got it done 2 days ago im hoping it will cure around the dot matrixs but it still looks hazy and its not sticking at all on the top its almost peeling off anyhting i can do b4 i have to take it back to the tint place?
ill see how well it shows up its a black car and black tint so idk how well it will show... best way i can describe it is its either moisture or the tint is sticking to the dots and staying raised off of the window... and the peeling is occuring at the top its just not curing at all.. looks like im making another trip to the tint shop
About a year ago i read on the forum someone sanded the dots down with a real fine sand paper and the tint stuck perfect, Has anyone else tried this before.
