Vacuum the top with a soft bristle attachment on your shop vac. That will pick up all the lint and pull the dirt out of the fabric.
I really try not to rub too much. You can lift the fibers, and rip the stitching if you're not careful. Ask me how I know.
I spray the Ragg Topp onto the roof, then work it in by squeezing with a sponge. Then rinse really well, and vacuum the water out of the fabric. Also, be sure the roof is thoroughly dry before you put it down.
Costco sells those yellow car towels that pick up just about everything. I keep one in the vette just in case I get stuck with a wet top and need to get the water off. Picks up linit as well.
