Maybe it is just me, but I think that the XM programming has been getting better of late. I've been the first to criticize the poor programming on the 60'S and other channels, but I honestly believe that lately, they are playing much better music. I have Sirius in my wife's and son's car and I think that maybe they are getting the message about poor programming. I hope I'm right.
i have sirius in my daily driver and xm in the vette which i drive about half the time as soon as the xm comes on i say to myself now i remember why i don;t enjoy the vette as much as i could. the xm d j's ( who on the 60's channel constantly give me a stream of news reports and other crap i don't want ( if i wanted that info i'd be listening to a news channel not music. and that horrible cq request program and terry young the toxic dj who screams and can't say anything even mildly intelligent or interesting, and channel 46 top tracksfeaturing asongs by groups i never heard of and for good reason. no xm still makes me want to drive a sharp object in my ear to pop me ear drum.as far as i can tell xm still bites
We got XM on our new Colorado, I went out and got the XM upgrade for my S-10 within' the week.. I love XM it's great. except that the stupid "Clear Channel" station are now playinig commercials
Just like regular radio, there will be individual programming managers for the different channels. Sometimes their decisions will coincide with the listener's tastes, and sometimes not. All this is completely subjective of course when one listener thinks it is good programming, while someone else thinks they are not hitting the mark with their selections.

There is no proven formula. Even professional program directors often miss the mark. Its a bit like a head coach of a sports team. Sometimes a new coach has to be brought in to gain a winning season. Yet the old coach often goes on to another team and is successful there. No one really knows why.
Enjoy the commercial free channels while they are commercial free. If you had big dish satellite TV the first few years it was available, the Disney channel, AMC, and others were commercial free. Nick played old TV shows. Now, well you know, 39 minutes of program out of 60.
Couldn't stand XM and finally switched to Sirius last week. Same complaints - too much talking , bad music selection. Terry Motor mouth should be fired - he is the worst (would have been bad in the 60's) he probably is costing XM as many listeners as Howard Stern is gaining Sirius.
Ugh, I was hoping by the title that you were talking about the sound quality. If you ever listen to a song on cd and then hear it right after on xm, you'll cancel xm as quickly as I did. Sounds like a 30 year old radio with crappy speakers.

Groups like The Doobie Brothers, The Doors, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton, AC/DC, REO Speedwagon, The Kinks, Santana, ELO, Crosby Stills Nash & Young. Yep, never heard of them.

had XM, switched to Sirius, besides programing, I really believe the sound quality is better with Sirius, I hear a more dynamic range, though does not compare to CDs'
I noticed this too some weeks ago, but like everything as long as we choices some folks will find fault or favor depending on their point of view. This applies to EVERYTHING, we have some folks that hate the GY run-flats and think something else is better, same goes for batteries, exhausts, air and oil filters, hell we have folks that don't like the push button ignition.
I doubt there is really any way to say with a straight face one is actually better than the other. It's all in the eye of the beholder.
Both systems sound like crap so I don't buy the Sirius sounds better stuff, give me some technical facts to back that up.
As of a couple of years ago, a technical comparison I saw gave the edge on sound quality to XM.
I think though, that in reality the receiver quality makes enough difference that any technical advantage one system has over the other doesn't matter much.

Agreed. The only way to compare is to look at the technical aspects - mainly the compression algorithms & ratio of compression. Broadcast digital audio is a compressed format of the original material, similar in concept to how an mp3 conversion of a high fidelity recording strips away data in favor of reduced file size. If you are reducing the data of an audio file using lossy compression, there is no way around the fact that you are reducing the frequency bandwidth detail. This is much like how a jpeg or mpeg lowers the quality of a high resolution photo or video.
