. . . . . . I just want to not have to stop the damn car if I want to use the NAV. Believe me, if there was a way to use an aftermarket product and still keep the NAV function on the HUD, I'd yank this thing in a heartbeat.
How about this for an idea: I believe it has been determined that the speed sensor input triggers the "no input while driving" function. A couple of people, here and elsewhere, reported cutting that connection and then they could input stuff but the nav lost some accuracy of where you were (like going through a tunnel or what have you).
So, how about just installing a switch that that lets you toggle on/off the speed sensor input to allow that function?
I would like to get rid of the lawyer nag, let me program it when moving, and watch dvd movies.
That said, it is my understanding of the nav unit however is that the existing video panel does not support a high enough resolution to display movies.
There was a company a while back, and I don't remember their name, that would convert the nav to let you watch movies, and one of the things they did to allow it was replace the video panel in the nav with one that accepted video input from an outboard device. It was about $500, and you had to buy a dvd player in addition to that because they couldn't use the dvd player in the nav.
They also did not disable the lawyer nag and they didn't enable you to program the nav while moving. I still don't understand why I have to tell some GM lawyer everytime I get in the car that I won't hold GM liable for wrecking my car. Once in a while should be enough.

Been tried, doesn't work. The problem is that it's not a simple electrical signal that triggers it. It's data passed via the serial data bus, so it's kinda like disconnecting the hard drive from a computer. It carries all sorts of data in AND out.. you disconnect that, you aint' gettin real far. That's why I think the Coastal Tech stuff is a Serial Data Bus interceptor.
At TVandNAV2GO you can get it done for $450 if you really want to see a DVD on the screen. Only extra is the DVD player for about $300 with a local channel tuner in it. The unit has to be removed and sent in to modify it. Doubtful any time soon the Nav screen will be figured out. Has not been yet and we are up the year 2007. My op
What are you guys in for? You can't get DVD's on the current screen, you can't turn off the "lawyer notice", you can't input address's on the fly, you can't change out the NAV unit without loosing the NAV directions in the HUD.

I contacted them by email on November 24, 2006 expressing an interest in them developing a similar product for the C6 and told them about the interest in such a unit from CF members. They never replied.
I tried as well on January 22 with no response.
I thought all were Denso units, so maybe the C6 won't be too unuque. I don't care too much about DVDs, but would like to have camera input even on low res.
I'm ready.
