Removal Procedure
Preliminary Procedure
Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement .
1 Steering Wheel Control Switch Screw (Qty: 2)
Tip Remove the steering wheel control switch screws.
Tighten 2 N·m (18 lb in)
2 Steering Wheel Control Switch
Tip Disconnect the electrical connectors from the from the switches
I see that the center piece is not show in that diagram. I just went out and felt the backside of the steering wheel. There are no screw holes back there. What that being said what would be the procedure in removing the center piece to get to the diagram that you are showing? Does the center piece just pop out??

Preliminary Procedures
Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
On the sides of the steering wheel are 2 circular openings, place the wheel so that one opening is on top.
Using a blunt-ended tool, push the spring fastener inward through the access hole. Repeat the step for the other opening.

Tip
Release the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer.
Disconnect the electrical connectors.
Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping .

I don't even have an 06 and up and would not consider that adventure. I don't like the steering wheel in an 06 and above anyway but the silver trim similar to the console looks ok to me. I see a few folks painting the silver console red, blue and what ever and I just think it looks tacky for a car or a Vette.

I see a few folks painting the silver console red, blue and what ever and I just think it looks tacky for a car or a Vette.I painted the Center Trim Plate, Twin Instrument Panel Cluster Pods and Door Button Bezels to mach the all black interior of the car. The matching color actually ties the interior together. These were goign to be the last two pieces to do. But not now.
As you stated Radical05 I too didn't want to have the outside color inside of the car. It looks tacky. The Black on Black on Black has a seamless feel inside.
