Default Our cars have a Black Box!!!!!!

Learn something new every day. Our cars have a Black Box similar to a Flight Recorder in an airplane. Was watching local TV and a news clip refered me to there web site. Interesting, read and post replies. Looks like something that could be used both for and against us.

Copied paragraph below from artical:
More than 65 percent of cars on the road have black boxes. Car dealerships are not required to tell you your car has one when you buy it. You'll have to check your owner’s manual if you really want to know.

The web site is http://www.counton2.com
Key in "black box" in the search box.

Yes it mentions it in the owners manual as well. I wasn't excited to read it but still wouldn't disuade me from buying again

It is pretty much standard equipment on any airbag equipped GM vehicle.

This subject has been beaten like a rented mule. Feelings have been hurt, insults thrown, and paranoia has reigned supreme. It's there....who cares? The "box" has been in cars for years. Let's get back to why high end floor mats don't have heel pads and whether Zaino's new AIO class product will spell doom for others.
Peace...out

From what I know about it.
The black box records the speed you are going at the time of the air bag deployment. It is very difficult to disable.

It has been used in court cases.

These have been in cars for quite a few years now.

Not meaning to insult the OP....here are some posts from the last few months and a poll on the subject. Roadfly forum for BMW 5 series railed mightily about it for several years. Lurking here for almost a year, I have seen it pop up several times. I work in a job that has security cameras watching employees 24 hours a day and have had them on me for 30 years. The "box" means nothing to me.

Not only have they been in the vette for the past 8-10 years, but it's been discussed here several times.
