Default Warning Chime on exit?

Why am I getting a warning chime when I shut the car off and open the driver door? Headlight switch is in Auto position. I can't find anything else in the manual that would give a chime.

I see you have a 2007, but is it auto or manual tranny? Are you getting any messages on the DIC at all?

3 warning chimes are typical if you've left a fob in the car and have gotten out & shut the door. But you said you get the chime when you open the door and it's not the lights, since you've got it in the AUTO position.

I guess we'll have to wait for someone else to "chime" in. I can't think of anything that would cause it, although I did have it to happen once. Just be sure the fob you're leaving the car with is witih range of the fob-detecting antennas in the car as you open the door.

Are you setting the parking brake? That might cause a chime, not sure.

Manual tranny. I haven't gotten out of the car, still in the driver's seat. Nothing on the DIC when this happens. I just shut the engine off and open the door and I get a continuous chime as long as the door is open. Shut the door and chime stops. Open door again and chime starts. Must be some detail I am not aware of.

Try setting the parking brake for sure. With a manual tranny, I believe the shutdown procedure calls for setting the brake. I know my easy exit seat won't move back when I open the door unless I set the brake, but I can't recall if it chimes also.

I'd try using the parking brake like Indy-hp suggests. Here's what the 2007 owner's manual says on page 105.

Parking Your Vehicle
(Manual Transmission)
Before you get out of your vehicle, move the shift
lever into REVERSE (R) and firmly apply the
parking brake. Once the shift lever has been
placed into REVERSE (R) with the clutch pedal
pressed in, you can turn the ignition off and
release the clutch.
It does not say anything about getting a warning chime if you don't use the parking brake, however.

I've had that happen on occasion with my manual '07 too. I think it could be the parking brake. Stopped for gas the other day and it happened. Maybe I didn't set the parking brake. I'll experiment with it.

If that is in the 07 book, I think they may have crappy editing at the printing factory and left some in from the 05 manual. There is no way in hell that I do that crap before I get out of the car. Set Brake, put in neutral, press "off", release seatbelt, get out, close door. That is my "Exit" routine.

The owner's manual no longer says reverse is required. The 05 manual did.

When you got out of the car to pump the gas, did you take your fob with you and leave the door open while you pumped the gas? Many here have found out the hard way that the car "thinks" you stayed outside the car after you got back in and shut the door. Also, since there's now a fob in the car, it sounded the fob left in the car warning - 3 chimes.

Next time you pump gas, shut the door when you first get out. Bet you won't have a warning chime this time when you get back in.

This happens upon occasion with me as well, although I have the automatic transmission. I have foudn that IF I take the time and put the transmission into park again, it stops. I wonder if there is a switch that the lever must hit for the car to know you are actually in park. Just a thought.

Has happened to me several times. I feel its' a communication issue between the FOB, & the receiver(not sure where its' located). Now, when I go through the shutdown procedure, the FOB is always in my left hand ready to exit. Have not heard the 3 chimes in over a year.

I had this happen when I turned the engine off and turned the accessory portion of the switch on (lower right). I got a chime when I opened the door and didn't know why until I noticed I could turn the radio on and I thought everything was off. Turned the accessory off and no chime...

The bottom half of the starter switch does not have a left or right side to it, it's one solid lever. There are only two indicators on the lower half of the switch because it can perform two different functions, accessory mode or off.

Which one of two functions that gets performed is not determined by the side of the switch being pushed, but by what state the car is in when the switch is pushed. If the engine is running then the lower part of the switch turns it off. If the engine is not running then the lower part of the switch puts the car in accessory mode.

If you're getting the 3 beep warning after you exit the car and close the door, then the FOB is not being detected outside of the car even thought it actually is. It's similar to getting in the car and trying to start it and getting the NO FOB message even when the FOB is in one of your pockets inside the car. Both of these glitches has happened to me a few times, but neither of them happen often.

No, not at all. I shut the car off and open the door and "ding ding ding ding" keeps dinging! When I shut the door (from outside the car) the horn doesnt honk and all is fine. At first I was thinking I left something on like a light so I opened the door again to look and no dinging and all is well...... Its only done it 6 or 7 times in a year but it is strange.
