Touch up paint for comp. grey wheels?
I brushed a curb in a chaotic valet parking area at the Daytona Hilton. I hit it just enough to take some paint off of the outer most edge of my right front wheel. Does anyone make touch up paint for competition grey wheels? Any other suggestions, less "don't hit curbs," are welcome!
I get more compliments on these wheels...people love them!
Thanks!!!

I went in to my local auto parts store today to try to find some touch up paint for the wheels. I don't think that T183 is the exact same color as WA9243 after looking at the paint charts. The problem is that most paint charts ask for the body color and don't have information about the wheel color. But I found that WA9243 was also a body color for 87-92 Oldsmobiles and it was called Gunmetal Metallic. Duplicolor has this as GM 396. I ordered a small bottle. It matches perfectly.

I had a recent demise with a curb and suffered a rash on my standard rim. These guys repaired it onsite in about 45 min and I can't even tell where the damage was. Saved me a bunch of money on replacement costs and beats having to be reminded with a nice scrape on your wheels. Total cost was $85. http://www.mobilewheelrepair.com/

FWIW, if you can't find GM396 (aka WA9243), take a look at GM344X - Gunmetal.. It's a tiny bit lighter, but it's very close.
I found Duplicolor GM396 touch up bottle/pen at Checkers. No luck at either Checkers or Autozone on spray.

don't forget after the touchup paint to use some clearcoat! a good paint job is nothing w/out the clearcoat, esp on wheels. good luck!

Here's an old post re: Z06 wheels, which are gray:
"A week or so ago, we had a discussion [ http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=652085 ] of how/where to get touch up paint for 02-03-04 Z wheels. We thought that Fichtner had it (nope); we found the paint code (WA 9789); and we heard that Duplicolor GM 435 was used by a few people. (thanks, AndysZ)
Yesterday I bought a bottle of the Duplicolor GM 435, and guess what? It shows the WA 9789 code right on the label!! I tried it on my wheels, right there in the Wal-Mart parking lot and it's DEAD ON correct. Makes curb rash marks disappear from 5 feet away, and makes wheel weights a lot less noticeable.
So, it turns out that Z wheel paint is readily available after all. [However, I don't think this GM 435 works for 01 wheels. Someone else may want to chime in with that info to keep it all in this thread for future searches]"

Have been driving myself nuts trying to match this up (2007 VR MN6 Coupe QX1 Comp Grey wheel option)...Dealer left a couple of scratches in the edge of the wheel while installing new tires. Duplicolor's website, along with O'Reilly's/Advance Auto/Autozone have all indicated NGGM396 2in1 touch up pen coinciding with the GM396 / WA9243 paint code, but no one keeps it in stock and Duplicolor doesn't have it in stock on their website????
GM Parts counters at Chevy/Cadillac were USELESS and I couldn't find an Oldsmobile dealer for some reason ....
Just about to give up and go to an autobody place for help, and I found the "T183" by Duplicolor in spray at Advance Auto. It has been replaced by BGM0534 Gray Met (90WA8798), but is not available in the pen. Sprayed some onto a piece of cardboard and used a Testors model paint brush to apply it....
FREAKIN' PERFECT! Just take your time for $6.99...

I touched mine up before they were repaired properly. A great color match was Scratch in fix NG GM 396 Gunmetal Metallic. It was hardly noticable unless you were inches away from the wheel.

I scraped mine good at Carlisle last year. But there's a guy here locally that will refinish it on the car and it looks good as new. Of course it can't have massive damage but he had to grind on it a little.
