While driving today the check engine light came on. No DIC messages, everything seems OK. Shut it off and back on-still had the indicator light. What does it mean?
,Any new Mods(intake, headers),or Did you recently put gas in the car? If so,check the cap & re tighten it.If its not that, bring it to the dealer. They will read the code for you.
Had it happen at about 1000 miles. Called OnStar while driving.
They had me stop the car and reseat the gas cap.
That didnt do it, but they said it appeared to be bad gas.
I had filled up at a Amoco Ultimate out in the sticks of NC.
After about 100 miles on the newly acquired gas from a new gas station "Check Engine" light went out.
Unless you just modified something, you'll have to use something to read the trouble code to determine what is wrong. If it's just the engine light and no other warning, then it's nothing serious and you don't have to worry about driving it. It really could be anything. The gas cap is a common one. One time I had one for unusually high voltage on the fuel level sensor.

Take it to the dealer ASAP, have them pull the code.
About 50 miles ago I bought a tankful of 'no-name' gas. Never considered that would be a problem.
Dang Jarhead... If you'd been fed only rice in boot camp. Would you have made it thru without a warning light?
Feed the beast the best you can get. Amoco Ultimate -
from a new station.
I had to learn that lesson the hard way.. Semper Fi marine..
Gob Bless
This was on my C5, but I took a road trip and got gas at an Amoco in Missouri. I drove for about 20 miles and the check engine light came on and stayed on. I didn't stop because it seemed to be running normally. I ran that tank out filled it up at the station that I normally get gas at. Reset the code and it never came back on. Must have just been bad gas or a different blend that the car didn't like. I was probably nuts for not having it checked out.
