Default Windshield Defect?

Well I know it's not me or anyone of the 4 or 5 cleaners I have used on my windshield. On the passenger side about 2 o' clock up by the frame, is a smudge, about the size of a baseball, which at first glance appears to be just that a smudge. No matter what I do or use it will NOT go away. It has to be a defect in that huge windshield. I don't know if I want the dealer to look at it and replace it if they will or just live with it. It doesn't hinder my view but when the car is all clean---There's the smudge.
Anyone have the same problem? I would hate for the dealer to start playing with it. They could make any replacement a nightmare.

Is the smudge on the inside or outside?

A windshield replacement could become a headache for assorted reasons.... do some searching on the forum here. What's that saying again... "Don't fix what ain't broke". If this "smudge" truly cannot be cleaned away, I'd say just leave it be UNLESS it REALLY bothers you. You will be rolling the dice with a windshiled replacement... might turn into a big headache.

Another attitude could be, just wait until a rock cracks the windshield and deal with it then... because it is not too uncommon for a windshield to get chipped or cracked over time. I have full glass insurace on my Vette, it's cheap.

I have one about the size of a thumb print next to the windshield frame on the drivers side. It depends on the angle you are looking at it to see it. I think it's in the lamination.

The only baseball sized smudges I've noticed on my vette I believe are maybe from suction cups used when installing the windshield at the factory. This is the second car that I have noticed them on. My last car had them and they eventually went away over time.

The suction cup marks have appeared on my C6 and also on my CTS. Even after repeated cleanings which appear to remove them there is a tendency for them to reappear after a week or so, especially noticeable in certain lighting conditions. Not sure if the suction cup leaves some kind of residue that cleaners won't penetrate or what, but it sounds like it could be the problem being referenced. Also, the windshield replacement is a whole other thread; there are horror stories about it, including my own. Don't do it unless the haze/marks are interfering with your vision.

I would suggest you use some comet and lots of water to clean it with, I do this a couple of times a winter to get the road grim off. It will actually polish the glass.
