weight reduction on c6?
I know the car doesn't necessarily need it, but it will give better road feel and possibly free up some hp that would otherwise be used to propel the car. Again, not like it needs it.
So I am wondering what some of you have done to reduce weight.
My ideas are as follows:
- How much do the stock seats weigh? Front and pas.
- How much does the stock battery weigh?
- How much does the muffler weigh and do most AEM mufflers reduce weight?
- How much carpeting is there that's relatively easy to remove and replace?
- How much do the wheels weigh?
Any other ideas please?
I'm not looking for a track car that's completely stripped, but I want to remove the things that I feel are unnecessary, maybe around 100 lbs.
Thanks

Wheels and brakes, most of our vendors can tell you the weight savings; and non run flat tires (a big savings there).
Then seats, though you will lose your side impact air bags.
Carpet insulation.
A full length header system will save weight, carbon fiber hood, I have no data on after market mufflers.

- How much do the stock seats weigh? Front and pas. Your not going to do better with seats and still drive it daily. You could take out the passenger seat.
- How much does the stock battery weigh? You might save a pound here
- How much does the muffler weigh and do most AEM mufflers reduce weight? Go with a no muffler. Might save a few pounds.
- How much carpeting is there that's relatively easy to remove and replace? Easy to remove. Should not change the appearance to much.
- How much do the wheels weigh? Go with forged wheels.
Any other ideas please? Change the brake rotors with two piece rotors. Carbon Fiber Hood. Z06 carbon fiber front fenders. Go to non run flat tires and remove the tire pressure sensors. Pray you don't have a flat. You really don't need a radio, remove it and carry an I-Pod. Remove the air bags, who needs them anyway.

Lighter seats will help as will a lightweight battery though I would think twice about the small battery with all of the computers/electronics going on in these cars.
Wheels can be a big weight savings but once again a lighter wheel is also a softer/potentially weaker wheel for rough road and pothole experiences.
None runflat tires do weigh less AND offer better (usually) performance.
Actually, I've been thinking about this ever since I determined that my '06 MN6 coupe with 3LT and Z51 options weighs 90 lbs. more than a no-option 1LT coupe. Next time I may just get the lightest possible Vette, a 1LT with no other options. The 1 LT seats would be lighter for sure without airbags and heaters and as many power motors. I'd probably replace the sways and shocks for flatter cornering even though larger swasy would add a few pounds, and possibly the runflats, wheels, and rotors to greatly reduce unsprung weight, although I'm hooked on the runflats for my daily driver after many, many punctures.
Hence why I ordered mine that way.
