Default weight reduction on c6?

When I get my c6 (coupe most likely) I want to, as I always do w/ my cars, reduce weight.

I know the car doesn't necessarily need it, but it will give better road feel and possibly free up some hp that would otherwise be used to propel the car. Again, not like it needs it.

So I am wondering what some of you have done to reduce weight.

My ideas are as follows:

- How much do the stock seats weigh? Front and pas.

- How much does the stock battery weigh?

- How much does the muffler weigh and do most AEM mufflers reduce weight?

- How much carpeting is there that's relatively easy to remove and replace?

- How much do the wheels weigh?

Any other ideas please?

I'm not looking for a track car that's completely stripped, but I want to remove the things that I feel are unnecessary, maybe around 100 lbs.

Thanks

Why not start with unsprung weight and get the most bang for your buck?
Wheels and brakes, most of our vendors can tell you the weight savings; and non run flat tires (a big savings there).
Then seats, though you will lose your side impact air bags.
Carpet insulation.
A full length header system will save weight, carbon fiber hood, I have no data on after market mufflers.

- How much do the stock seats weigh? Front and pas. Your not going to do better with seats and still drive it daily. You could take out the passenger seat.

- How much does the stock battery weigh? You might save a pound here

- How much does the muffler weigh and do most AEM mufflers reduce weight? Go with a no muffler. Might save a few pounds.

- How much carpeting is there that's relatively easy to remove and replace? Easy to remove. Should not change the appearance to much.

- How much do the wheels weigh? Go with forged wheels.

Any other ideas please? Change the brake rotors with two piece rotors. Carbon Fiber Hood. Z06 carbon fiber front fenders. Go to non run flat tires and remove the tire pressure sensors. Pray you don't have a flat. You really don't need a radio, remove it and carry an I-Pod. Remove the air bags, who needs them anyway.

I want to start w/ the inexpensive stuff first. Kind of like a, "Get you out of the way" type of thing.

OH! Does it come w/ a spare tire? That is going first.

Best (and potentially cheapest) solution yet....if your own human body is overweight, go on a DIET and/or get rid of your spare tire Oh, no spare tire with the C6 which is why the tires that come with it are called run flats.

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask how much the stock driver weighs

Losing weight for me is a given, though

If you are so concerned about weight, go for the Z06...it comes lighter and with more ponies...and a bigger price tag

Then hood insulation, carpet insulation, the fuel rail covers. Switch to non-runflats when it's time for new tires, but then you may want to add a plug, seal, and small air pump kit.

Aftermarket two piece rotors from Baer will save weight at all four corners. Light weight wheels and non-run flats will also save you a substantial amount of weight. You will have to be aware of getting a flat then since there is no spare tire and you won't have the run flats to fall back on.

You can start with the minor things...remove the fuel rail covers and the rain guard cover from the air filter assembly and take out the owner's manual and floor mats.
Lighter seats will help as will a lightweight battery though I would think twice about the small battery with all of the computers/electronics going on in these cars.
Wheels can be a big weight savings but once again a lighter wheel is also a softer/potentially weaker wheel for rough road and pothole experiences.
None runflat tires do weigh less AND offer better (usually) performance.

There are not a lot of opportunities to strip weight from the C6, as GM did a pretty good job, and almost all involve trade-offs that I wouldn't want to make. The stock wheels are light, only expensive forged wheels will be any lighter. Two-piece brake rotors will save a few pounds. Replacing the runflats with non-runflats will save quite a bit. Stripping out the carpeting is easy and will save a few pounds. The Delco battery is pretty light, might save a pound or two to replace it. Empty the windshield washer fluid reservior and remove, maybe 10 lbs there. The power driver and passenger seats could probably be replaced with lighter racing seats, not sure. There is no spare or jack to remove.

Actually, I've been thinking about this ever since I determined that my '06 MN6 coupe with 3LT and Z51 options weighs 90 lbs. more than a no-option 1LT coupe. Next time I may just get the lightest possible Vette, a 1LT with no other options. The 1 LT seats would be lighter for sure without airbags and heaters and as many power motors. I'd probably replace the sways and shocks for flatter cornering even though larger swasy would add a few pounds, and possibly the runflats, wheels, and rotors to greatly reduce unsprung weight, although I'm hooked on the runflats for my daily driver after many, many punctures.

Hence why I ordered mine that way.
