Hey all I was wondering if anyone could help me make up my mind. I have an 07 Z51 6 speed manual and will be doing a host of mods.
I have used flowmaster mufflers on most of my cars in the past. I like the borla catback system for corvettes but heard a soundbite of the Flowmaster cat back the other day and loved the sound
My question is Are there any horsepower gains comparing the two? I have heard that cat backs offer little HP gains on these cars that most of the power will come from the LG longtubes and highflow cat hardware.
Flomasters are abut 350 borla any where from 875 to a grand. Ive had both and love the flomasters. They are deffinitly not your typical 2 chamber either in my car ther is no drone.
i too have flowmasters .... ya just can't beat the price .. and i think they sound just fine.. and with 400 HP even if you "lost" a couple of horses it wouldn't matter to me...
I have Flowmasters(American Thunder C6 system) also, and a MN6 and love the sound. No noticable drone on mine either.Flowmaster says that they tuned this version of the Delta 50 muffler especially for the C6.
My experience is with Flowmaster Super 40's replacing the stock mufflers on my GTO. Love the sound. Just the right amount of gurgle and pop when decelerating. City cruising gets you noticed in a good way and highway cruising is pretty quiet. Plan to do the same on a Vette.
i don't know but i always think FLOWMASTERS = MUSTANG... i have no idea why...i had borlas on my c5 and LOVED the sound...especailly with a set of long tube headers the c6 has corsas...there almost SILENT... not my style...hopefully the headers and off road pipes make it sound a bit better...if not i may be going for borlas again
I talked with a couple of vendors and they told me to stay far away from the flowmaster kit saying that you actually lost power with that set up. I found them for $323.00 from a local place here in Atlanta and the price just seems too good.
I have always heard that with the C5/C6 that changing the catback was not going to result in much hp gains it was more just for sound but I don't want too loose any power either.....

maybe ask your local shop about magnaflows? they seem to be popular around here for a modest price.
i have flows on my firebird. after having the car since 99, i cant remember why i chose to go with that except so i could hear the car at all times. it annoys the hell out of me now when i hear this loud hum and drone at any and every speed/rpm.

I think the vendors you talked to just want to sell you the higher priced system. How can they say the Flowmasters loose HP when BOTH systems lower backpressure and "open up" the exhaust system? One system may offer a couple of more HP than the other but I can't see how any system would cost you HP.
I used the Magnaflows (#14336? Can't remember part numbers). Used the stock tips and got out for under $325.00. Not really loud like some systems, and only a little louder at idle. A little drone at 1500-1800 rpms but the 6spd takes care of that. Put your foot in it and you can hear them just fine. I'm sure the Flowmasters will serve you just fine.

Sounds like BS to me, I'd stay away from those vendors...................
I've had my flowmasters on for a week, highly satisfied. Tried the maganaflow weld in muffler option first, and heard another car with Bullets. Sometime in the next week or so when I get a chance I will post interior sound clips from a drive
Have you seen before and after dyno runs of the C6 with Flowmasters? I would like to see that.Flowmaster claims 8 hp and 9 lb/ft torque increase with this system.
it's true, flowmaster are extremely restrictive, you will lose power say what you want but the vendor was telling the truth, I've seen it on the dyno.
I'd love to see that. And we are talking about the 17416 system, not just a pair of weld in mufflers. For as long as flowmaster has been doing exhaust, I find it hard to believe they would throw out a product that lowered HP. But if they do, someone show me.
I'll see if I can get ahold of the dyno charts. I wasn't aware we were talking about a specific model number. However from the results i've seen in general flowmaster typically doesn't flow as well as other systems, so if a vendor said it didn't make more hp than another kit, i'd be inclined to beleive them. I just ordered the Borla Stinger, so if someone want's to drive to OK and has the flowmaster I'd be willing to bolt it up and do a back to back test on the dyno..

Flowmasters are too ghetto to be on such a nice machine as a C6. Borla is IMO such a nice exhaust I wouldnt even consider anything less for my vette. When I think of Flowmaster I think of a primered Camaro with some Joe Dirt lookin dude drivin. I run Dynotech headers into a catback borla and its a beautiful sound with a very nice performance.
just addin my .02

ive seen dynos of flowmasters and dynos of borla on CF.
flowmasters got the guy +8, borla +10
i have the flows, love em, love the price, sound great and with the vararam nice cheap mods and i can feel the power
just because a product doesnt cost too much and avoids the c6 tax doesnt mean its crap
listen to the sound clip, they are great, it doesnt sound like a mustang or a camaro to me,
it just sounds like an awesome engine
