Yesterday I picked up my new 07, with an A6 transmission. About 5 miles from the dealer, the check engine light came on when I stopped for a traffic light. After pulling away from the light, I noticed at about 45 MPH my engine revs were at 3500 RPM, it seemed like it might have been stuck in 3rd gear? Tried from a full stop again, never felt the transmission shift. I also put it in Sport Mode, (after a full stop) made no difference, tried the paddles, also would not work. This morning I started the car, check engine light was off. I put it in drive, and went for a ride, the transmission was working fine. I felt it shift thru the gears and after about 5 miles, same problem, check engine light comes on, transmission feels like it's stuck in gear. I don't feel it shifting at all. Going to the dealer in the morning. Just curious if anyone has had this problem? Hell of away to start out with a new car.

I had a simular problem with my A6. I had about 5K on the clock when the transmission acted up. I had been out driving for 40 miles when I came to a stop. When I went to pull away it seems like the transmission was hung in between gears. My wife even commented about how it sounded when we started off. I stoped about 100 yards away and started off again, and again it did the some thing. We stoped for lunch, killed about a hour. Came out started the car and drove home without any problems execpt the cruise control didn't work. I took the car to my dealer the next day. They couldn't find a thing wrong, and there was no code stored in the computer. They only said to wait and see if it happens again. At which time they would connect a diagnostic tool to the car to capture the event. It has never happened since then and I have 10.5 K on it now. I posted a thread about this even but never got anyone to have the same problem. If you do find out what the problem is please post it. I would love to know what caused this problem.
If I had problems just after leaving the lot from picking it up I would take it back for good. I would fight to replace the entire vehicle or at least negotiate some free extras. Check their return policy... I had a transmission problem on a car I bought about 14 years ago (not a Vette). The automatic tranny started slipping after I only had it three days. I took it back to the dealer and got an exact replacement car. They found an exact match at another dealer and worked a trade with them. They even gave me a loaner vehicle to drive for the week it took them to get the replacement car in. I'm funny about cars when I have a problem with them. I lose confidence and never feel the same again. Hope it all works out to your satisfaction.
Hopefully this is just one of those weird things that slipped through the cracks & easily made right, because these C6 cars really are an absolute pleasure to own & drive.
Congrats on the new car, and hopefully speedy fix.
I would have made an immediate 180 and gone directly back to the dealer.
When I left the dealer my gas gauge showed empty. The salesperson had specifically told me that the tank had been filled...so I assumed there was a problem and wanted them to be aware that it existed when I took posession of the car. As it turned out, the tank had not been filled. They then filled it and all was okay.
Point is, get it right back to the dealer so they know the car was delivered to you that way. It gives you more bargaining power should there turn out to be a serious problem.
To check the transmission fluid on a A6 you have to put it on a lift, not a normal user activity, no external dip stick as in the past. Dealership trip required.
i feel your pain. my first vette (1979) stopped shifting at 400 miles - stuck in 2nd. dealer fixed and never a problem. fast forward 20 years @ 30k the seals on the tranny were leaking due to sitting and age. my guy has to drop the tranny to replace the seals, no problem. he calls me and says WHY DO YOU HAVE A REBUILT T. CONVERTER in you car???? i thought you bought this car NEW??? well, 20 years prior the dealer put a rebuilt unit in my new car @ 400 miles. BEWARE. JUST BEWARE. i would have retured for a new car unless it's a simple electronic fix. dealer service dept. = bad news sometimes. hope that it's something very simple for you.
