Default Ground Clearance

The community in which I live has decided to install speed bumps, in order to control speeding. Can anyone advise me what the ground clearance is on a 2007 Z51 coupe?

Very very low (sorry, don't know the exact answer). You might ask them whether they are aware they will be liable for any damage to your car.

(OK, they probably aren't, but they don't know that).

My development installed 15mph speed humps and I have zero issues.

If you have a stock car of any model, your community is not authorized to install a speed bump so high as to cause scraping when going over slowly. I would talk with them. Good luck.

There is about 3.0" from the bottom of the front plastic air dam to the ground (or slightly less in some cases)... but this aim dam is designed to flex and be scraped. It all depends on how you approach the speed bump anyway... if you hit it on an angle you will have greater success than rolling straight into it.

The C6 has ride height (trim height) adjuster bolts... you can actually increase your ground clearance a bit by adjusting these bolts... easy to do. One member here has reported adding an entire extra inch of ground clearance via these adjusters. I have added about a half inch to my ground clearance so far, still fine tuning. You will most likely need a front end alignment after doing the adjusting.

You just need to pop the wheels off, put a jack under the leaf spring at each adjuster point to take the spring load off the adjuster, and then turn each adjuster bolt clockwise by about 3 or 4 turns... that'll give you roughly 1/2" to 3/4" of extra ground clearance.

Too bad you could not have kept the community from putting in those speed bumps though. Seems that many fancy upscale communities put in tall speeds bumps... which is really hard to understand since many people in upscale communities own expensive high performance cars (which are low to the ground). I guess it's the asphalt contracter who lives there that makes such suggestions.

How bad are the speed bumps going to be? My car is lowered and the only thing I hit on speed bumps around here is the air dam. I avoid them when possible, but if I have to go over them, it's no big deal, just gotta go real slow.

We do not have the darn things here, as they tend to throw the snow plow driver onto the dash. But I have encountered them while traveling and find them hard on tire wear. After approaching at an angle and slowly crossing the first one, it is necessary to bring the revs up and launch prior to slowing to a stop for the next step. Leaves a permanent comment for the lot owners.

There are all kinds of speed humps, bumps, dips etc around here. Just take them slowly and they pose no problem for the Vette. They are a pita though.

Does this work the opposite way, i.e. lower the vehicle?

I seem to rub on everything and it grips my ****. I do rub on some speed bumps so I have learned to go at them at an angle.

Every time you rub on a speed bump or something it ruffs up the bottom of the air dam. When I have the car on the lift detailing it I trim the bottom of it with a pocket knife to smooth the bottom edge.

I think I might try to raise it a bit as mentioned earlier.
