Default Cams....

Hello all, i recently purchased an 05 c6 vette 3lt with z51 package. I have some factory warranty left and an extended warranty. Now my question to all is this, how are all of these mods being done with warranty?? I for one want cams and headers so bad. Are all of you with these mods voiding your warranty and you are risking it?? I am new to the game but would love to have some input. What performance mods can I acutally do and not void my GMPP warranty?? I mention cams because I think that is the best sound an engine can ever have(my thoughts of course). I want to cam my vette so bad, with full exhaust, but it is not worth the risk if I will lose all of my warranty. Please help with some input. Thanks all who respond!!!

You could have a cam installed by a tuner that gives a warranty on their work. I know LPE and DTE offer at least 2/24K warranties. I'm sure other tuners do this as well.

Does this warranty cover just engine work correct? What if I had transmission problems or something like that.. Can the dealer say that because the engine is modified that my original GMPP warranty is out. Thanks!!!

Do you know of any shops around north Florida that can do the cams??

I thought the warranty wasn't void if you used bolt ons like headers and exhaust?

it shouldn't be, but you won't know for sure unless you ask your dealer. some dealers are mod friendly(granted the effected part is not related to the issue, i.e. windshield wiper motor has gone out and you have a cam) and some are not. i suggest talking to your service manager and see how they feel about it.

of course the above is in regards to bolt-ons. if you do put a cam in there, consider any warranty for parts of the motor gone.

Thought so about the cam and warranty, but what about headers and exhaust?? By the way, I am new to this, do they make short tube headers so you can keep factory cats?? I see everyone talking about long tube, but they all say you need high flow cats that will not fit in the factory location. If they do make short tube, do you get any perfomance and extra sound out of them???

if you saw the stock ones taken off an ls2, you'd see they really are shorties anyway. i'll see if i can get a pick of mine.

As far as I know, technically if you have an '05 you don't have the 3LT option. You would have the comparable option: 1SB.

Anyway, concerning the warranty: Once you open the motor you have pretty much voided the warranty on the motor and anything the dealer can prove that the modifications broke. i.e. You drop a cam and heads in it and you fry the tranny. If the dealer finds that you have increased HP with mods to the motor, then I would certainly imagine that they will void any warranty work on the tranny because you have modified the engine to put out more power into that tranny.

When it comes to headers/intake that would probably not cause any issues, however, as others have stated, if you are concerned then it would be in your best interest to speak with service personnel at your dealer.

Most speak of long tubes because they give you the most HP. I'm not sure on the C6's but shorties on the C5 were pretty much a waste of money.

I currently have intake/headers on my car and will soon be installing an axle back exhaust. My dealer is mod friendly so I don't have any issues.

I don't know of any shops in North Florida that do cams on Vettes but I believe that CF member Radical05 might. I think he's had someone here in NE Florida do some work for him. Look him up and shoot him a PM with this question.

BTW, where abouts in North Florida are you? I'm in Jacksonville myself. Mandarin specifcally.

Didn't know about the 3lt package, as you can tell I am new to this. Just saying it is the loaded option with all the bells and whistles (not that it matters i don't think). Anyways I am located about an hour west of Jacksonville. I have a car stereo business in Live Oak... Thanks for the input. I am really looking forward to some headers on my car, just hope my service tech is here to stay. My luck I will get them put on and he will leave. Now if I talk to (or do anything it takes) my dealership and get them to install the headers, then my warranty can never be void right?? They installed it so they would be in the wrong if someone else every tried to deny my warranty??
