I hope I am the only one to have this happen, but before I go into the dealership with my problem, I wanted to check with the helpful people on the Corvete Forum --
my top (manual top C6) did not get latched all the way - (I have to blame the operator) and at about 35 MPH the top opened up in the wind - it still works sort of - it will go up and down but does not seem to fold up all the way in the well - it is very hard to get the lid down
Any thoughts or suggestions before I go to the dealership - besides hanging myself!
Man...I did that ONCE. Just once. I noticed the "lift" at about 15mph. The top banged once or twice before I figured I forgot to latch the top. Good luck.
Guilty as well... I felt an unusual breeze just as the top started to lift up. Likewise at maybe 15 mph or so? No damage thank goodness. I was preoccupied getting out of the car and forgot to latch the top. That will never happen again... I hope...
Sorry to hear about your damage. I don't know if I would lie (or withhold truth) about the damage when talking to the dealership. Just shoot straight, suck it up, and live and learn. Just my $.02.

2024 C8 of the Year Finalist - Unmodified
Add me to the guilty list. Pulled over on an Interstate just before the rain clouds let loose. Put the top up in a hurry, rolled the windows up and took off quickly to avoid fast moving up coming traffic. BAM What a sickening feeling to see the top open about 4" above the header at 30 mph. Pulled over again quickly and secured the latch. Only suffered near cardiac arrest and slight paint chips on two sides of the bottom lip of the tonneau cover where the frame slammed against it.
Manually try to lift the top as in the way it happened and you'll see where the frame makes contact. No biggie as there were no cracks in the fiberglass and the paint chips are not visible with the cover down.
I agree that there should be some type of warning when the top is not securely latched. I think the main struts and braces of the frame are magnesium and would break before they bend. Have a dealer with experience with convertible tops check it out. Good luck.
