This question has been asked many times but I have STILL yet to see anybody post saying they did it.
In theory it should be possible. IF you have Bose in your car (because apparently Bose has the VSS wire in the harness) then you could install it. You will have to have a dealer program it because all stereos are VIN-locked, so make sure you have concrete proof of purchase as some dealers are leery of doing the programming since it's purpose is anti-theft. Also factor in the cost of that programming.
I have factory NAV in my '06 and after living with it for a year and having played with other NAV systems since, if I had to do it over again I would not have purchased it. Aftermarket systems give you way more features and flexibility and don't cost any more money, and in some cases less. I just bought an '07 Avalanche as my daily driver and that is exactly what I'll be doing.
I have an 05 with Navigation and when I am going on a trip I rely on a Garmin 276C to backup the factory nav unit, I actually have more confidence in the Garmin unit. (I also use this unit as a backup GPS chartplotter for marine use, with a chip change.)
I got the Pioneer D3 and love it. If you need two disc drives (so the Nav CD can be loaded and you want to load a music CD, get the D2)
I mostly use the ipod interface so that didn't matter. As far as I can tell, the Pioneer units fit/look/work great in our cars.

Plenty of install info in the Audio/Electronics section from guys that have installed AVICs, Eclipse, Kenwood, etc double-din NAV units. Check the FAQ first, there are a couple of threads detailing the installs. Link in my sig.
