I see that the '07 LS2 uses the same oil filter as the LS7, while the '06 LS2 and LS7 use different oil filters. Is there a reason I shouldn't use the LS7 filter on my '06 LS2? What is the best brand and number filter to use on an '06 LS2?
Look in the owner manual and see what is required. It is an 07 so go to the dealer and see what they have and cross reference. I don't care what anyone says the dealer filter, fram or get a K&N if it makes you feel better are all fine. I change my Mobil 1 oil every 4-5K miles anyway no matter what because the oil is still dirty and still gets in the filter/system synthetic or not. Gives me piece of mind and far less than major repairs. Been doing that (various depending on syn or not oil) in all my cars and no issues ever in over 20 years. Bottom line filters are not issues unless maybe you get a Walmart $1.99 special. Stay with the commons. Your 07 should not even be due for a change yet anyway unless you drive it unlike most in here don't.
The LS7 filter will not fit on a 06 C6, but will fit on a 07 C6 as the filter mounts were changed on the 07 model. Bobistheoilguy.com has extensive info on oil and filters, you will learn that Fram filters are universally hated for their poor quality, Walmart brand are actually quite good for the $. and in general the more expensive filters are worth the extra cost.

The LS7 and '07 LS2 filter won't fit your '06 LS2 engine. It uses a different thread, and has an internal bypass valve that your engine has in the filter mount instead. Your '06 needs a PF46 or equivalent. As to brand, AC Delco is Ok, Mobil 1 is Ok, Wix is Ok, HiTech from Walmart is excellent, just don't use Fram. Since Allied Signal bought Fram, their quality has gone straight into the toilet.
What's your opinion of the STP oil filter? AutoZone sold me one for my first change. I'm still debating on getting them there or stocking up on a few Delco's from Gene.

AC Delco PF46 Mobil1 5w30 just like your owner's manual says.
Those two things do the job perfectly, there isn't any aftermarket filter that is going to do anything magically different for that engine. The PF46 is a high quality filter with the correct flow rate and filtration for that engine. Plus no warranty issues.
The LS2 oiling system relief valve was modified in 07 to match the LS7, hence after 07 they both use the filter designed for that style of pressure relief. The threads are different to prevent wrong usage.
I just ordered two of the K&N filters and the sealing grease from Eckler's, 1-800-327-4868. The filter is part no. 48985 @ $54.99 (you need two and the grease is part no. A3492.

Yikes a lot of$$$. My local PepBoys and Advanced Auto has them for like $12-13.
The mobil 1 oil filter for the 07 C6 is M1-113. I just changed my oil on my 2007 C6 this past weekend. You can order it from Murray Discount, Autozone, etc. They will probably not have them in stock and will have to special order. Took 2 days to get mine.
