The dull coating on the rubber weather strip that runs up the windshield pillar on my coupe has worn off in spots....exposing the glossy rubber underneath. Must be the constant sunshine here in Arizona. Anyone else seen this problem ?
Looks just like mine. I thought the dealer or someone put some preservative on and it was finally wearing off. (after 2 years). I dressed the area with some Zaino tire dressing and it looks a lot better but if anyone knows a permanent fix I'm
Is this a defect that can be replaced under the 36/36 new car warranty?
If you only had your vehicle for a couple months you probalby could get the dealer/warranty to clean it up/fix it. However, if your car is a year or more old I would not count on the warranty to cover anything. Looks like some sort of clear coat finish that is wearing off.
Did any of you that have had this problem happen to buy the extra clear coat wax that business managers at the dealership try to sell you? I forget what it's called, but I was offered some sort of "extra" clear coat that is supposed to be like a semi permanent wax. Of course, I passed on it, but maybe what some of you are seeing is the result of this spray on stuff.
Took it by dealership today....... It does look just like the picture. They said they've replaced this on a number of cars..... maybe a bad lot........ will take three days to get the part in and they said no problem to put it on..... i've not put anything on the rubber or had it in a car wash or anything that would rub it off.......

Try to get it repaced under warranty. The prevenative step that should be taken is to apply a thin coat of dielectric silicone grease to all weather stripping once per year. There is a GM part that can be purchased through a GM dealer or Mid America. Mid America p/n 100-554, $10.99 for 3 1 oz. tubes.
Been there, done that; I think the rubber composition is defective; I suspect it will eventually occur with the replacement piece unless GM changed the compound. It is definitely a manufacturing defect and should be covered under warranty.
