I just got my 2007 AO Coupe. Many people on the forum suggested giving the new battery a charge after bringing home. Is it OK to hook directly to the battery, red to red, black to black? I found the remote positive plug in the fuse box but was unsure where to find a good ground. Thus for now, it is hooked directly to the battery. Thanks.
my tender goes directly to battery terminals, i have had no problems, starts right up every time.....you can run wires from battery out from the top of hood, i put a towel between the wire and fender, you can close hood, or leave partially open....
The instructions on my battery tender jrs say that for a negative-grounded vehicle, to connect the negative (black) clip to the vehicle chassis or engine block away from the battery.
For a positive-grounded vehicle, to connect the negative (black) clip to the negative ungrounded post of the battery.
I have followed the instructions for a negative-grounded vehicle. It worked perfectly all last winter, and since just after XMAS this winter. I disconnected them this past Saturday, they both started up as normal, and took them out into the driveway. I reduced the liability coverage and removed the collision insurance off for the winter on the new one so I couldn't take it for a spin, but I've kept the full insurance on old one and can take it out in nice weather. It will definitely be out the rest of this week.
Direct to the battery is fine. The only reason they say to use a remote ground is to avoid sparks near the battery on the last connection. But with these sealed batteries I haven't seen a good battery explosion in decades. You can avoid sparks but not plugging in the Tender to A/C power until after hooked up to the battery. Same thing with disconnecting. Unplug the Tender from A/C, then disconnect from battery.

I'm using battery-MINDer model 12112 which I was using on RV batteries for a couple years. Hooked to terminals, just plug it in after hooked to battery. I cut the leg out of an old pair of sweat pants to run the wire through down the fender. Put battery-MINDer on after trying to start up in late Dec and was dead. Looked to see my Rocky Mountian radar detector was on. OOP'S!!
I hook up my baterry tender through a 12V power plug that goes into the cigarette lighter. Works fine. Does anyone know of any reason why not to do this? Worked fine on my BMW RT1100R cycle.

Your battery was fully charged on the way home from the dealer.
