Default tire problem

I have a 05 C6 with 10,000 miles, i am having a problem with my front wheels cupping. I can here it and feel it when i'm driving. I had a dealer look at alighnment, he said it was ok. Does anyone else have this or have a solution to this problem? I HAVE THE Z51 SUSPENTION IF THAT MATTER.

I would check tire pressure. A couple of pounds can make a difference

That is not very confidence inspiring. What the factory and dealerships consider acceptable, is too wide a range of settings. You can't just tell them to check it, it can easily still be off, but within their "acceptable" range.

I had my two front tires replaced because of cupping in November.
Alignment was checked for free by GM and found to be OK.
I put up a fight and GoodYear paid for most of the cost because I only had 7,000 miles on the car and was within the original 2/32 of tread.
Cost me about 220 bucks total for two new fronts mounted.
Mine’s a 2006 Z51 if that matters.

had the exact same problem- i told dealer car was out of align, they checked, said it was fine, went back they said fine, went to diff dealer, they said not fine, aligned, right front was cupped bad and felt on a turn, made me really mad because the first dealer saying the car didn't needed aligned caused my car to be unsafe-long story short, you probably need it aligned, goto different dealer and ask them to check because first dealer more than likely will not admit he made a mistake-dealers, what can i say. if it wasn't for the gm card i might i would drive a diff brand

Data, you need correct data! "OK" does not work. What are the actual alignment settings?

I had the same problem with an '05 C6 - Both front tires at about 12,000 miles. But I must be a lucky SOB - I took it back to the dealer - he checked the alignment and replaced both front tires. Didn't charge a dime.

Check alignment. Factory alignment is not really very good on average.

Mine is not a Z but both front tires were cupping on the inside. I had a four wheel alignment when new tires were installed, the car was out of alignment front and back. So far no problems.

Sounds like OK might not really be OK. Have another dealer check it.

Cupping is not caused by poor alignment.

There are two reasons for cupping:

1. Poor shocks/struts.
2. Failure to rotate tires.

Now I realize you cannot rotate tires on a vette, but if you ask a tire dealer, like Discount, Sears, NTW, or Tire Rack, that's what they will tell you.

Your GM service mgr can explain the cupping too.

I guess they must be putting used shocks on new Vettes now. I don't think rotating from side to side would have helped. Tire pressure was always where it should be but the alignment wasn't. So I'll stick with the poor alignment as the cause.

I had the same problem with 4000 miles on my 06 Z51. It WAS the alignment. I had them print out the alignment details from the machine and compared them to info I obtained from another post. This is not my information. It is from another site, while dated, it is here:

http://www.vbandp.com/instructions/h...ruct/align.htm

Once I pulled out this sheet, the Service Rep called the Alignment guy. He took "another" look at it and changed the alignment settings. :o I received another printout, a before and after one. This printout showed both fronts were NOT with in spec in the "before" settings. Hope this helps. It cured the problem.
