Was a nice day so I decided to get my car out of its winter sleep, only to find the battery was dead as a doornail.I had a trickle charger on it all winter and the door opened two weeks ago,I guess the charger just crapped out.Since I had the hood open I decided to put the vinyl decal letters I got from Mid America on my painted fuel rail covers. The decals are crap,(I`d like to see Mike Yeager try to apply them) so they ended up in the trash can. After that I took the battery out of the car and hooked it up to a battery charger I borrowed from my son in law, I then closed the door to the garage and called it a day before anything else went wrong.Hoping for better luck tomorrow.
Hope so... If the battery is completly drained then you will have significant problems in the future. It will work for a while but end up leaving you stranded when you least expect it. If it tests good then you are OK - if not buy a new one and take the battery out next year and leave it on the trickle.
Don't forget that after you get the new/recharged battery in, you'll have to reset the window indexing.
Raise the window and hold the up switch an extra 3 seconds. Release. Without lowering the window, hold the up switch again for 3 seconds. Release. Done.
This is called resetting of the window indexing or power window initialize and is in the owner's manual. See page 2-18 of the 2006 owner’s manual, or page 87 of the 2007 owner’s manual.
You might want to look in to getting a Battery Tender Plus. I use them on my cars all the time. I usually hook them up when I know I won't be using the car for a week or more. The AC Delco battery in my 68 GTO is about 7 years old now and so far it has never failed me.
