After reading an article in VETTE magazine it was brought to my attention that some people believe that there is a certain age (and above) that one shhould own a Corvette. Seeing as i am 23 i wanted to hear what fellow Corvette forum members think about this subject.

In most states, a person needs to be 18 to sign contracts or own property. Below that age, a parent or guardian must be the responsible party, except in rare cases where a court has granted a writ of emancipation to the young person. So I'd agree that there is a minimum age for Corvette ownership.
I saw that article, it's just that any car worth that much is hard to come by for people early in their career. Most people have marriage and kids hit just when they might be getting an income that would let them buy a $50k car.
I got my first corvette at age 23. Unfortunately the vette was 13 years old at the time - 1988. Boy did I put a lot of money into upkeep. No way I could have afforded a new one back then!
So I consider you pretty special to have a C6, and seeing that you are in Afghanistan right now, I would say you deserve it!
I am 20 Years Old as well as my brother.
We both have 2007 C6 Corvette Coupes.
Prior to my Corvette, I owned an Infiniti G35 Coupe and a BMW 3 Series prior to my G35 Coupe and he owned a BMW E46 M3.
Are we the youngest C6 Corvette owners on this forum at 20 years old?
I don't think any age is too young. If you really love them, it doesn't matter. As they say, Tomorrow is promised to no one. So if you want a Corvette at 18yrs old...then go for it. I am 33 and as far as I know the youngest vette owner in my area.
Maturity is a better measure than age for determining when someone is responsible enough to drive a high powered machine like the Vette. While age and maturity are usually related, there are exceptions to what's considered normal for some people.
Im 28, I Dont Think It Really Matters You Just Need To Know When To Hit The Throttle N When Not To. You Gotta Have Some Kind Of Handles On Driving Or You'll Wrap(crash).
The biggest question, if money is any issue at all, is finding an insurance company that will insure you for a price you feel like affording ... younger drivers may have someissues here, expecially in some states.
Otherwise, any age works (I got my first 'Vette at 22). If you are not a real experienced driver, allow me suggest attending a two-day driving school (offered at many venues around the country) to get a little instruction on how to handle a 400hp rear-drive car. You will learn a lot.

i dont think there is really a minimum age but definitly a min. maturity. also i think if you are one of those kids that has daddy buy you a brand new one on your 16th b day...you probably shouldnt have one. there are exceptions to that but VERY few. if you are 18 or 20 and have worked your *** off and can buy it yourself then by all means go for it. i was 24 when i got my 05 and i paid cash for it.

I had my 1st Corvette at 18, back in 1968 .
I bought it with my own money, my father didn't see it untill after I bought it. I took care of it and didn't abuse it.
If a rich kid gets one from daddy warbucks, the kid will probably abuse it.
In other words, a 400 HP toy in the wrong hands is a dangerous weapon.

Good luck with your decision, and enjoy.
I actually pulled the hammer, and bought my Vette in January when i was home on leave. You mentioned a driving school. I am interested in taking a driving school but more so for track time, or simply to be able to get my car on a track. I know Kevin Schwantz offers a suzuki motorcycle driving school at Road Atlanta, where you get to make a lot of hot laps on your bike. I am interested in something like this, but for my car. I would love to be able to just put my car on a track and go, but i know that without instruction it could be disastrous for my wallet.
In 1984 I was 21 and in college when I got my first new Vette . I bought and paid for it myself. My dad was surprised when I drove home in it. The C4 intro was a big event. It was really cool to have one back then. With my blazing 205 HP, I felt fast. Then my girlfriend raced me with her TPI 305 CI Trans Am and beat me. Heavier car and less CI's. Cross fire sucked!
If you have the means, why not. I bought mine at 26 almost a year ago and am loving it. Just know yourself. If you can't respect the power that comes with the car, you might want to reconsider. But thats completely up to you. But its one hell of a ride
I think any age is fine as long as you work hard and buy the car with your own money rather than being spoiled by your parent's. I bought my Corvette last May when I was 19. (20 now)
