DIY: Tail and Side Light Removal

3rd brake light is LED.
There are many LED 'bulbs' that can replace the OEM incandescent bulbs.
Not sure if the Forum Vendors are offering these yet, but they have all the other lights on the car covered, so it may be worth checking with them.
Personally I bought the V-Star LED 'bulbs' from V-LED's, but there are many options to choose from. Autoillumination is another good source, I got my Phillips/Osram HID fog lights from them.

also wondering about that too. i would just like to have LED replacement bulb, not necessarily an entirely new halo unit. i like the stock unit, just want a more vivid light. i saw this, has anyone tried this or an LED bulb like this? it's just the replacement to the standard old fashion bulb. Interesting that it's best to get a red LED light, not white, in that more of the red light passes through the red lens.

I have wanted to get clear side marker lights for quite a while. I finally read this DIY and saw that it was an easy swap. I bought the clears through Forum Vendor Corvette Mods (www.corvettemods.com) and I added the red & amber LEDs. (They come with white LEDs) Due to the clear pix and easy description I was able to swap these out in less than 30 minutes. On a scale of difficulty of 1-10 (10 being the hardest) this was a .4! Very easy.
Before (amber/red)
After (Clear/Clear)
Hint: The LEDs are polarized so before you push the complete light unit back into the side of the car insert the LED in the socket and turn on the parking lights. If it doesn't light up: turn off the lights, pull out the LED, re-insert the opposite direction, and test again.

Thank you so much for this, just did my 10' GS, replaced oem with smoked marker lights. I only needed a T15 Torx to remove five screws in the wheel well shrouds for the front marker lights, (no need for dikes) & the rears I just left the taillight hang instead of removing the wiring connector. thanks again! Cheers!

I recommend buying a "trim removal tool" and a small flatblade screwdriver instead of the sidecutters/dykes.
It will save potential damage to those clips. Pry middle part of the push pin out with the small screwdriver then the rest of the push pin with the trim tool.
Picture of tool for pushpin removal.

Thanks!
Adding my thanks to the (long ago) OP. Great writeup and helped me replace BOTH front side marker bulbs on my just acquired 2009 Coupe. Only 57K miles and both sides burned out (front only). Must have been a lot of late night runs down to and back from Key West for the previous owner. Very helpful and a dry run fro when I do a full LED replacement for any incandescent I can get to.
