I once read a posting about a battery monitor that shuts down the battery drain when it gets low (11.6 volts I think). This item costs about $85.
Can someone direct me to this post or the part?
I have had an 05, automatic trans, for 2 years. I returned from a one week trip Friday and my car's battery was dead. I've recharged it and my mechanic measured its power to be 50%.
I'm going to the dealer tomorrow for a battery replacement and the software fix that is supposed to eliminate the high power drain. I'd like to investigate this solution so I don't have another dead battery.
The item you're referring to is called a Priority Start. Might have to do an internet search to find distributors, etc.-- not sure if any forum vendors sell 'em.

The DBS is found in '05 MN6 only and does not affect A4's. The software couldn't hurt I don't think, though.
Your battery is probably just dying from age.
MidAmerica Motorworks has PriortyStart for $69.99.They also carry a really compact battery minder called a CellMate.I have used both for the last couple years and my battery is always at top charge, and the PriortyStart has never had to trigger. It is nice to know that I will not be caught at an inopportune time with a dead battery.
