Short answer is we don't know if it is possible. No confirmation that anyone has successfully done it. There is one report of one member having completed the task but not confirmed. Here are a few threads on the topic recently:
I saw a thread w/pictures of a guy who did it in his c4.Check out the c4 forum with your question, maybe they know something we don't.
The ability to do it isn't in question. We've added it to C5's since 1999. The C6 however, is as yet unproven. The parts are available (projector harness and bezel) for less than $400.00 for the C5. After 1999 all cars regardless of HUD equipped or not had the "plumbing in place at the gauge cluster to accomplish this. For 1997 and 1998 C5's you needed to swap out your gauge cluster with a HUD enabled one. This could be done for less than $200.00 generally parts and labor to match the mileage on the new cluster. The C6 is as yet unknown as to whether or not the mating connector is in place on the gauge cluster. I had heard that Gerardo of Down South Vettes had done this on his but no one has confirmed this.
You not only need to get the projector, wiring and dash switches, you'll need to replace the windshield too. Sounds like a major undertaking.

This isn't completely accurate. The HUD equipped cars do have a different (special) windshield, that much is true. It has a reflective layer laminated between the layers of safety glass at the area of the HUD image. With that said, many (read hundreds) have installed and are using the HUD with the standard windshield. The standard windshield without the reflective layer is perfectly acceptable under about 95% of all lighting conditions to reflect the projected HUD data. Only in extreme cases of direct sunlight does the image fade on non-HUD windshields.

Try laying a piece of white paper on your dash. I can't believe seeing the HUD projection would be difficult.

What's inaccurate? You want to add HUD or partially add HUD? I don't do anything half-*** on cars that I work on. Do it right and be done with it. Add HUD to me is the entire enchilada, not add enough to get by most of the time. My twin turbo 98 Camaro could get by on 28 pound injectors 95% of the time. The 5% at 550 RWHP would destroy the ambiance of the moment, not to mention my LS6 motor, right quick.

Elmer, whatever gets you thru the night. There are hundreds if not thousands of C5's on the road with HUD that do not have the HUD enabled windshield. Either becuase it was a retrofit to a car that did not come with one, or worse because the insurance company wouldn't replace it with the proper, more expensive one when it came down to it. I challenge you to be able to tell the difference, I guarantee you won't be able to, sorry. What was innacurate was that you stated, and I quote:
you'll need to replace the windshield too
The implication of this statement is that in order for the HUD to operate, you will need to replace the windshield. This is simply not true. If YOU would need to do it to somehow feel better about the excercise, that's entirely different than it being a REQUIRED part of the HUD installation process. I assure you that nothing will detonate because you didn't have the $1,200 windshield in place of the $800.00 one without the film.

I would just hang up the idea of doing HUD, unless it can be done for pretty cheap. I do miss the HUD in my 04 Z51 , but don't miss it enough to spend big money adding it to my non HUD C6!
