Ran into a problem with my floormats. I got the GM accessory premium mats and for some reason their 'donuts' don't fit onto the factory studs. They don't pop in because the opening is too big. There's a TSB about it which is another story. Fix I found is to take the factory mat retainer pieces and swap them out. One problem solved.
But I also noticed one of my plastic lugs coming from the floorboard/carpet are cracked and about to break. Would have never noticed it if not for replacing the mats. Maybe I'm too hard on my floormats? So local dealer orders the new piece and it's color is completely different. Apparently GM changed suppliers, ha! The ones in my carpet are grey, new ones are black (they actually match better IMO).
The lugs appear to simply snap onto a bottom half piece coming out of the carpet. But my question is do I have to rip up the carpet to replace these? I've done a search and came up empty handed. Figured I'd ask if anyone has run into this before I tear into it (no pun intended).
Thanks. I'm actually supposed to get my service manual next week, was wondering if they described the procedure. I'm hoping I can just remove the covers over the front seat track and simply slide them under the carpet into position with a coathanger or similar device without having to remove everything else.
