Stupid question. I'm looking to buy a new Vette and want to now the accelaration difference (didn't spell that right). You know 0-60 and quarter mile. Is it worth investing the extra cash in the z51 package for this purpose alone.

2/10ths of one second 4.1 vs 4.3 Some people chalk the difference up to tires. Some chalk it up to different gearing in the MZ6 (MN6) transmission. The other reasons for Z51 are extra coolers, cross drilled brake rotors, stiffer suspension. I happen to just love the feel of the Z51 the best.
I opted for the Z-51 setup because of my x-girlfriend.....really
She bought the 05 C6 auto with the select ride. I always thought the car's suspension was too soft and it sounded like a Toyota.
So, when I ordered my 07 C6 I test drove the Mn6 Z-51 and loved it!! And I like the way it feels on the road. Not so stiff that it hops, yet firm enough.
Since then I have tracked the car three times and I know the Z-51 helps in the corners, especially now that my lap and cornering speed increases.
Good luck...

There are always questions and arguments about the Z51 option. Does it make the car better I would say no but is there a difference Yes there
is a difference. I have driven both and optioned for the Z51 which I love. The bottom line is to each his own.
Welcome to the Forum, tonym232 and garster. This is a great place to hang around with folks who know and love the only sports car that matters.
And it's a great resource for learning about Corvettes. While there are no "dumb questions," posting questions that have been asked what seems like a blue zillion times sometimes will draw a rude reply.
But civility will prevail and you'll get a good answer such as those from EdCalVette and talon90.
You should also try your hand on the Forum's search feature. It's certainly not perfect, but will often help you locate answers to your questions.
If you wanna go really fast in a factory vette then save your money and get a Z06. Some Z51 folks are fond of comparing their cars to the Z06 but truth is that no regular vette comes close.
The Z51 is designed and marketed as an autocross car not a quarter mile dragster. Of course, it and the base C6 are faster than most old time big block vettes in the quarter. Same engine though in Z51 or non Z51 and identical gearing too in the automatic.
Everything I have read indicates that the Z51 is a good option that improves handling and adds resale value. It's not designed to make the car significantly faster in the quarter mile though. I think it is close enough to the base car that it's a drivers race in the quarter mile.
Just my opinion. If I buy an 08 it will have Z51 option, maybe 10 hp more than the base , and maybe special badges too! Yipee!
