Default My Corvette Only Moves Forward

Checked the FAQ and did a search, with no results, so if I missed something, sorry.

Here's my problem. MUCH difficulty getting the 6M in reverse. Bought the VY 06 with 2700 miles. Initially, reverse was difficult 25% of the time. Now it's 99% of the time (3800 miles). Won't shift to reverse without a lot of gear rowing, easing out the clutch and one heck of a lot of cuss words. Good thing my 06 doesn't need to be parked in reverse. I'd be screwed!

Our club met tonight, and I was trying to back my car into the line. Couldn't get it in reverse. Of course you can imagine all of the hoots and hollers, along with generous offers to back it in for me!!

I know my next step is to the dealer, but just curious if anyone else has had this problem, or do I have a fluke.

Regards,
Mark

Try putting it in first gear, then back to reverse. Seems to help me

Thanks, Jim. I've hit all of them. Actually tonight, moving back and forth between fifth and reverse seemed to do it (after a few attempts). But I'll try 1st.

I'm still concerned that the problem has gotten worse in the past few weeks.

But thanks again!

Mark

No problems with my '07 MN6. It sounds like a maladjusted or bent linkage.

you may have a flywheel/clutch problem.... can you put it in gear (easily) with the engine off??

if you put it in a forward gear (stops gears from moving internally) then it goes in reverse with not problem sounds like the clutch is not disengaging all the way....

keep us posted....

Could it be a failing reverse lockout solenoid?

That's make you fight it to go into reverse.

Do the C6's even have a reverse lockout solenoid? :dunno:

Thinking out loud,
Alan

Sounds like a linkage problem.

It is probably the reverse lockout solenoid. There is a solenoid that keeps you from putting your car into reverse when driving forward. When the solenoid fails, it will make it REALLY hard to put it into reverse. You probably just need to have that part replaced.

Good luck.

Thanks to all for the input. I'll try the things mentioned, but will be getting it in to the dealer. I have a few other small things I figure are warranty items anyway.

Again, thanks. We'll keep you posted.

Mark

You don't have to park it in reverse?? Doesn't the ignition stay on with the car in any other gear?? just wondering..

My understanding, based on information obtained through this forum, is that the 2006 and 2007 manuals do not need to be left in reverse. Just the 2005's.

If I have that wrong, I'm sure somebody will chime in.

I have an '06 and, since I usually back it into the garage, I try to never leave it in reverse; always first and have not had a problem with it, yet. I would not want to be in a hurry, start the car, pop the clutch and find myself looking at the washer and dryer in my laundry room that is on the other side of my garage wall.

You are correct. The '06 and '07 owner's manuals still recommend putting the tranny in reverse before shutting down, but in the '05 owner's manual it states the shutdown procedure will not be completed without shifting to reverse. Also the '05s will display a warning in the DIC if the engine is shut down without the manual tranny in reverse, but the '06s and '07s don't.
