I'm sure this has been discussed, but can't find thread, maybe you guys can help answer my questions. Is it possible to play MP3 cd's, you know the kind with over a hundred songs on them, on my 2005 C6? And if so, HOW? thanks for all your help in advance.
Yep, there is an upgrade. The upgrade is done with a disc you put in the system. The upgrade disc was about 15 bucks from some of the forum dealers when some of us did not want to take our 05's to the dealers. If you have problems locating a dealer who knows about the upgrade, there should be folks on here with a copy of the upgrade disc.
I'm not sure what "upgrade" the dealer has. It sounds just like another dealer rip-off. All I do is burn an "MP3" disc (with up to about 225 songs). With 6 discs that's enough music for one long trip! I use Roxio burner. Today it was around 70 in the WDC area. Top off, amigo! What a car! What a country!

If you have the Nav there was an upgrade that fixed FM static and also gave you the ability to play MP3's. The part no. for the 2 disks from GM was 15853651. If you GM dealer can't order the disk then the service department should still have it laying around to do the upgrade for you, if you trust them. Here is a lengthy post that explained this upgrade with the 05's.
Most, if not all dealers have the upgrade disk. They may not know it though. When I called my dealer he said "I wondered what that disk was for." In a nice way.
Mine is a NAV so I know it works. Looked at downloading the the image from here but got a little scared when someone burned out their system.
If your 2005 does not have navigation, you can play MP3 discs with no modifications. If you have navigation, you can play MP3s after installing a software update through your nav system's DVD drive. I have the discs and instructions and would be happy to send you copies of each if you need them - just send me a PM.
Call your dealer to see if he has, or can get, the upgrade. I had the upgrade done some time ago and it improves FM reception, static free; and allows MP3s which work well in my 05. I do have the nav, so I am only speaking about that set up. It's well worth a short trip to the dealer.
Yep a simple 5 min CD that installs it for you and can get the dealer to do it or buy one for $10 at the dealer and do it yourself. The CD explains it all. Also the best to make MP3 that will play in the Vette is ITunes.
