Default "Service Steering Lock"????

Got stranded yesterday. Tried to start it - nothing. Had power, but the engine woundnt turn over. DIC read "service steering lock". I dont understand, what does my steering lock have to do with my car starting?? I have a 2005 and it was shut down properly (in reverse and e-brake engaged).

I did a search and saw read that C5's had problems with this. Any C6 owners experience this???

It sounds like the steering column lock needs to be replaced. I have a 2005 also, and mine's went bad at 2200 miles. The car was at the dealer for nearly 2 weeks waiting for the part.

When the battery is low you get a lot of messages that don't mean anything. It sounds like you need a new battery. Setting the emergency brake is not necessary in the shut down procedure unless you have memory seat's and steering. Good luck.

This is a royal PITA, which is why the column lock was removed after the 2005 model year. That doesn't help your situation but it has been addressed by GM(finally) I hope it all works out for you, hang in there.
