Default Odometer Display

Sometimes The Odometer Display Will Stay On The Mileage Reading And Sometimes The Display Will Show The Gear That I Am In When In "sport Mode" And Using The Paddle Shift. I Have Changed It Back To The Odometer Display But As Soon As I Shift The Display Shows The Gear Again. This Does Not Happen All The Time, What Am I Doing To Make It Not Default To The Odometer?

From the owners manual (page 2-29 for 2006):

When you up-shift or
down-shift when using
the Manual Paddle Shift
Feature while in the
SPORT MODE (S),
the current gear will be
displayed in the Driver
Information (DIC), or the
Head-Up Display (HUD), if
the vehicle has this feature.

I Have A 2007 A6 With Paddle Shift And A Hud. What Has Me Puzzled Is That The Current Gear Does Not Always Show In The Dic, Just Sometimes. Am I Doing Or Not Doing Something To Make It Default To Display The Gear In The Dic?

Interesting. I have a HUD and the gear only shows there. I have never seen in in the DIC - or it only shows for a short time like the cruise control message and I have missed it.

I have the HUD. If you're using the paddles and using your nav at the same time the nav will over ride the info in the HUD and your gear selection will be displayed in the DIC. When the nav is finished with the HUD, then gear selection will go back to the HUD display.

Mine won't show which gear until I use the paddles.

Yes, Lightning Coyote has your answer:

The gear will not display unless:

1) You have the transmission in the S (Sport) position
2) You actually use the paddles to up-shift or down-shift

If you are in S mode and don't touch the paddles, the gear will not display.

I think that's it It showed up in the DIC the other day on me after 1 year and I haven't gotten it to repeat since. I will try the Nav.
