My navigation is acting up on my 07 vert. When I say "voice guidance on", the computer voice says "voice guidance off". The display works fine but I can't get the voice guidance to activate when I want to. I want to avoid going to the dealer if at all possible. The manual isn't helpful with this problem either. Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated.

As others have indicated the voice commands can be questionable at best. Any extra noise in the cockpit seems to throw it for a loop. I find if I speak slowly and lean up toward the microphone on the A pillar when I speak them I can get about 70% accuracy. The command to turn the voice guidance back on is "Voice Guidance On" but it is a crap shoot as to whether it will recognize it or not.
Voice recognition for me is worthless. "Go home" equals "bank icons on". "Voice guidance" equals police and fire stations etc. I gave up on this feature.
Seems to be a common problem here. It was working fine until about a month ago. Maybe it doesn't understand my Florida accent. I guess I'll take it to the dealer and see if they know anything (scary thought).
I've found the voice recognition is not very reliable. I'd suggest using the options screen to change the state of the voice guidance.
I mostly like the Nav but the VR capability is virtually useless. I am going to sit in the car and practice a few useful commands until I find the right inflection to get the machine to recognize them.
I only try the voice recognition when I need cheering up - some of its attempts at answers are hilarious. Amazing thing is that if I repeat my request - I often get a different set of points of interest icons on the screen.
Interstingly, if the On-Star lady doesn't understand my command she asks me very politely to speak slower. With the voice recognition it just has a wild stab at what it thinks I might have said - heaven only knows who programmed the thing in the first place but one assumes that English wasn't their first language.
When really bored on a long journey my wife and I had a competition as to who could get the most correct commands - if it were a ballgame it would have been described as a pitchers dual because there certainly weren't many home runs........

Reason: appalling grammar!
My KRZR Motorola Cellphone has a new version of voice recognition that works really great -- but not with the top down at highway speeds on main street!
I am surprised how good it works - someone must tell GM!
I have wondered where the mic is for the VR. Is it the same mic on the driver piller that On-star uses? If so I think that could be part of the issue. For someone to understand me clearly with On-star, I must speak toward that mic. Maybe the same with the NAV?
