Or...simply say, "Cancel my subscription. I won't pay $149/year." They'll transfer you to another tele-support person that'll give you that $77/year rate. If you don't get it on your first phone call, just hang up and call back. You'll get fresh troops and if you're perssistent, you will get the $77 rate. I've done this about 4 times on various XM radios here at my home, at my office, and in my cars over the last year.

Background: Bought my '06 slightly used (88 mi) 3 weeks after it was put in service by original owner. Have been enjoying remainder of trial period but trying to renew, XM says I need to pay $i4.99 and the regular $142 deal. Anybody get discount when opening new account?

See my post above. The magic words are "I won't pay $149/yr. If that's the price then CANCEL my subscription." I bought my '07 coupe in early December '06. When the 3 month trial ran out last March, I called them and said Cancel my radio. The first tele-support person wanted me to sign up for the $149/yr deal and when I balked she transferred me to a second tele-support person who asked if the fee were $77/year would I be interested? I said, "OK, for $77 but not a Kopek more." and they transferred my subscription from the 3-month trial to a one year paid subscription.
If you don't get the answer you want with your first phone call, then hang up and call them back. You'll get a new tele-support crew and you just start over. Have faith and stick to your guns. You will prevail.
One thing not metioned here is its best NOT to give them your Credit Card number. Just tell them you dont have a CC and you want to be invoiced and will pay by check. This way there is no chance they
will clip your CC card automatically next year around. Oh, you wind up paying $2.00 more via invoice ($79.00) but to me was worth it after hearing XM horror stories here.
I called on the last day of my three month trial, April 26, '07. Told the agent I wanted the $77.00 promotion deal. There was no problem getting it. The agent was in the USA. I don't think a overseas agent could imitate a Southern accent
I called XM today (5/10/07) and used the ZWINBACK Promotional Code. $77.00; No Problem.
It took me less than 5 minutes. No need to waste time on threats or call backs as long as the promo code is good. But good to know that works if for some reason the promo code doesn't.
.......I called them up and said this code into my telephone reciever:" I want the sevice for $77 for a year"! You must use English and speak in a clear voice mind you. If after using this code you may begin to recieve STATIC from the other end, try this code: B.I.T.E.M.E., N.O.T.I.T.E.R.E.S.T.E.D .......... this seems to clear up any problems, enjoy you XM!

They invoiced me for 77. No more $2 for for invoicing.
