Like some others on this forum I am a new C6 owner. I have raced Mustangs and Ford products for 25 years , but when Ford asked me for a 15k surcharge on top of sticker for a new shelby I jumped the fence. I love the Vette but would like to change the shifter, however I can't see how to remove the trim on the console without destroying it. Can somone enlighten me or is there a good shop manual that I can get. Thanks for your help. Woodie.

Found at least 3 posts with instructions. Have to open the hinged console remove bolts, then unsnap the Emerg boot, take off shifter ****, right side little trim piece, etc. The console has spear inserts, you'll see.
After that comes the hardest part, the connectors . I am impatient and had to calm down quite a bit especially with the cig lighter. the prong is upside down to where it should have been.
Get a 9/32 nut driver bit. Loosen everything under the hinged console lid
Theres 2 screws connecting the console\arm rest piece to the console shifter\radio bezel piece inside the console, remove those
Unclip the ebrake boot by pullling straight down, it will give. That exposes 2 more screws I believe.
Use a very skinny flat head screwdriver to depress the latch on the console cigarette lighter wiring harness and disconnect
Disconnect traction control
Slide shifter cover down, remove screw that secures shift **** (T30 I think), remove shift ****
After that, its spring clips to get the bezel off just pull straight towards you. Then you have more wiring harnesses for seat heaters, hazard lights etc.
Also, I would recommend getting a shifter that has stops in it. A short shifter will be notchier and will require more strength to put it into gear.
Because of the extra strength that you are putting into your shifts, you are more likely to overshift. This extra strain on the linkage can cause catastrophic failure of your transmission. If you don't believe me, read this post, #13:
I just got my Callaway shifter, which has adjustable stops at .01" and I love it. Plus I know my shifts aren't going to kill my tranny in the long run!
