Finding a new Optima battery here in MN is like finding a virgin the morning after prom - not very likely! Anyway, it would appear that a batteries-only store here in MN carries them.
Two questions:
1. Red top or Yellow top & why?
2. What size (their little book doesn't have the proper size listed in it)?
2006 came with a T5 battery from GM. A group 35 fits great. I have yellow because my car is yellow, but yellow is a deep cycle and red is a starting battery. A yellow is normally used if you have added power consuming equipment such as a high powered stereo. Batteries Plus or Interstate shoud have them or can get them for you.
That's a good answer. One other question, though - the Battery Plus guy measured the Optima batteries he had and said that they may be too tall for the box? He seemed to think there would be a clearance problem with the hood. True? What about width and length - is it "just right" or does it need some kind of support in the box to keep it from sliding around?
I've been to three Sears' up here, no luck thus far. Batteries Plus has them, but I wanted to ask the above to make sure the 18 year old behind the counter doesn't give me the wrong battery.
My 07 came with a group 90 Delco, but a D35 yellowtop will fit just fine. Or you can go with a 34R redtop (reverse polarity). I haven't seen the D35 in any retail store around here but you can find them on the web. Most stores carry the 34/78 which I don't know if it will work. 1st optima batteries online has them and the prices are competitive.
I thought about getting a yellowtop for my Vette but am still on the fence due to some of the threads I've read here about them not being any better than the latest Delco Professional series batteries. Exide has a new Orbital battery which is similar but I don't know if it will fit the Vette.
