NCM Pickup Next Week!
but wanted to know what are the best parts of the factory tour? What should not be missed in the museum?Any good places to eat in Bowling Green?
Also - anyone drive back from BG to Long Island? Where is a good halfway place to stay (hotel)?
Thanks to all of your enthusiasm you convinced me this is the best sports car around - 1 week from tomorrow and its all mine!
car for the first time. I started a `07 Z06. WOW!
When I got to the musuem tour I was ready to
drive my new vert back home. The NCM delivery
is the only to go.
The next exit south on I65 has any thing you could
want to eat.
Enjoy
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

I just got back from BG - took the plant tour today with a friend. I was reminded how good the Museum Delivery plant tour and Buyer's tour are. The public plant tour only lasts 1 hour. We went by a lot of stations without any comments and without stopping, no time to get it all in an hour. But on your Museum tour your guide will answer your questions and let you spend as much time as you want along the way.
BTW, they have updated the safety video to show C6s.

The assembly plant tour is not to be missed, my guide had retired from the plant and could answer any question that I had. NCM delivery is a great experience and my wife even enjoyed it (although she did get a little bored during the plant tour).
I did the Buyer's Tour back on September 26th. The tour guide was fantastic and made sure that we saw everything they let you see in the factory. I didn't do museum delivery, but I can't imagine that your tour guide would do anything less. The NCM really runs a great program. The main difference between the two tours is that I got to follow my own car down the line. You will follow another car, but get to drive yours home.
The NCM itself is great. Allow yourself the better part of the day to see everything inside. Take about an hour or so to stop by Art's Corvettes across the road from the NCM. It's a used Corvette/Muscle car place and he had some pretty nice cars there.
We stayed at the Hampton Inn while we were there. It's about 5 minutes away from the NCM, and is located on a pretty busy strip that has all the regular motels, chain restaurants, and stores. There are one or two motels right next to the NCM, but there isn't much else there. You would probably have to travel back and forth to the strip where the Hampton Inn is located to eat anyway. If you decide to stay there, just tell them you are visiting the NCM and they will give you a discount.
I drove straight through on the way there. It took about 14 hours. We stopped overnight in PA on the way back. We got off the road at one of the first populated exits in PA after we crossed over from Ohio.
I checked Mapquest from my address it routed me west over the GWB, through NJ and PA, in to OHIO, then south to Kentucky. The route wasn't terrible, but almost no places on the interstate themselves to stop for snacks, gas or bathrooms. You also go through a lot of Cities in Ohio.
Just for the heck of it, when I got home, I punched in a starting point on the South Shore of LI and it routed me through Staten Island, south on 95, then cutting across west in VA if I remember correctly. The mileage and time were almost identical.
If I were to make the trip again I would go the latter way. I don't know about the part where you cut east and west through VA, but the parts along I95 would make for a better trip IMO, many more places to stop for the usual creature comforts. There is no shortage of decent places to spend the night along the road in VA or MD either. Plus you won't have to subject your new Corvette to the GWB and the Cross Bronx. The Belt is no bargain, but I think it is the lesser of two evils.
Good Luck!

I think it's the Montana Grill. It's down the road on the right about a mile from the Hampton Inn. Trying to get there was an interesting experience. We could easily see it from the main road, but it was a bit of a puzzle to find the right access road to get to it.
Good steak.

The museum is absolutely great. Allow yourself at least several hours. The museum store is not to be missed. Give yourself at least an hour to browse through their great selection of Corvette stuff. Do be careful, though, as it can get expensive. Even though I told myself that I wasn't going to go nuts, my shopping spree still ended up costing me $300.
